Could the events in "The Happening" occure with how the trees n plants kill everyone?

YES! Isn't it just frightening? There's a plant called a Triffid that can uproot itself and move over the ground that eats human and other animal flesh. There's a worldwide program to eradicate this plant, but although it's been going on since the  '50's the plant still fluorishes on many remote islands of the South Pacific.
