  1. The palace is technically the monarch's property; both Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace and their art collections are held in trust for her successors and the nation. The furnishings, paintings, fittings and other artefacts, some by Fabergé, from Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle are known collectively as the Royal Collection; owned by the nation, they can be viewed by the public. The Queen also technically owns the Crown Estate with holdings of £6 billion; however, the income of this is transferred to the Treasury in return for the civil list payments. The monarch continues to own the Crown Estate, but cannot sell it; instead, the estate must continue to pass from one sovereign to the next.

  2. It is owned by the Country, tax payers (including the Queen) and non-tax payers, alike.  Like 10 and 11 Downing Street, it is an official residence which goes with the job.  Unlike the Downing Street houses, you can go on tours of Buck House, but not the private quarters of the Family in Residence.

The Queen doesn't actually need to own Buck House - her family have property which they do own and she probably prefers to live somewhere like Balmoral anyway.

The Palace is a focal point, like the Palace of Westminster, and is used as a base for Official Duties and entertaining Foreign Dignitaries.

And, no, you can't suggest that the taxpayers sell it to someone like David Beckham, no more than we can suggest selling Westminster Abbey, St. Pauls or the Tower of London.

  3. Her Majesty's palaces are her own property. She can sell them or donate them to the country as she wishes. Incidentally, the ships of the Royal Navy are technically the property of the Queen. She can sell those too --if she doesn't mind starting a republican revolution...

  4. we own nothing , unless you bought your own island, your taxed all your life and even when you die, the answer is no

  5. no i dont think she can

  6. I dont think she could

  7. No it is Crown property not the Queens. which means that it belongs to the Monarchy and not the queen herself. i guess though that if things got desperate enough and there was a real need she could, monarchs have done so before, but i would say it is unlikely unless the monarchy is abolished.

  8. The Palace is the property of the Crown, not the Queen's personal property.

    She cannot sell it.

  9. She owns it but if she sells it, there will be an outcry, and people will start cursing the family, and eventually will be thrown out the country or beheaded (happened before), and Buckingham palace claimed back from the purchaser on grounds of being a national monument.

    But technically she owns it.

  10. The queen does not actually own anything. The country owns buckingham palace and it is used as the residence of our royal family.

  11. We just pay for it.

She could sell it and help a lot of her subjects that she is supposed to care about.

But the ruling classes would not sell anything that would reduce their supremacy.

  12. HM the QUEEN does not own any property in the UK,Buckingham palace along with all the other royal residences are government property in the first instance,in short, the tax payer(you and me) pay for the upkeep in the long run.

  13. :0) I'm not sure who would buy it either way....... the poor estate agent would have his work cut out on this one - imagine the show-arounds!

  14. The Palace is the property of the state constitutional monarchy;whoever is monarch may use it,but can not sell it.The buildong is more than a residence;it is a state office as well. The Queen can not consider the Palace as personal property.

  15. The Queen cannot sell Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle as they are owned by the State. She can sell Sandringham House or Balmoral Castle as they are owned by her.  When Edward VIII abdicated, George VI had to buy both Balmoral and Sandringham House so they would remain retreats for the Royal family.

  16. it's owned by the crown.

she doesn't own it. Taxpayers pay for staff and up keep.

  17. The Palace is not the Queen's personal property.

It belong's to the crown, which in effect makes it a tied cottage that goes with the job.

  18. Hello,

(ANS) I think if you want to get technical or factual about this then, I would say that Buckingham Place IS owned completely by the Queen and the Royal Family, so yes! she could technically sell the Place. After all Buckingham Place is a part of the queens estate.

**However, its my understanding that the monarch (queen) and the royal family hold Buckingham Place on behalf of the state i.e. the British people. They have a sort of unspoken contract that Buckingham place would never be sold off as its considered a national asset of the country.

**The Queen & the Royal Family are so incredibly wealthy that I can never see a time they would ever need to sell Buckingham place off.

**Actually if you have ever been inside Buckingham place (as I have) its not what you expect. Its definitely seen much better times. And I suspect the state of the palace is probably dreadful behind the scenes away from the public areas.

    Ivan

  19. Belongs to the country only Balmoral is owned by her.

  20. I'm pretty sure that it was given to the royal family by the Duke of Buckingham.  So she could sell it in theory.

    I'm looking for a pad in London.....Pehaps......

    NO!!!

I don't want to have to clean up all that horse poo.
