Question:

Could there be something wrong with my cat - she's behaving slightly odd?

My cat who was taken from vets after she was found by someone in a rubbish bag in graveyard in September 2007, who possibly has an abusive past, has been acting strange recently. I'm not sure about her age; she's about 8-9 years old. For one she already has a meow that sounds more like a squeak (like her vocal chords have been damaged or she hasn't developed out of her kitten voice). Her motor coordination is quite clumsy (she doesn’t move too smoothly), and she's very cautious and apprehensive, and if you don't take her out, she often stays in the same place waiting for you to come - she’s very fearful of new settings.

We also have a german shepherd that’s very tolerant and amicable, along with a male cat from a previous litter, whose sister died of paralysis and diarrhea due to some kind of heart or liver failure, and his mother was run over a week later.

Now my cat has been spending time nuzzling a fruit bowl with her head on the fruit, though she’s probably in heat. She’s also just crapped and urinated on the bed today, and she is probably quite old so I’m not what the cause could be.

Could anybody explain to me why my cat is like this?

  1. My cat acted somewhat like this when i first took her in. Poor Patches would hide in a closet or corner everyday, staring at my other 3 cats. She never did anything. I think it has to do with their personality. You know how some people go through terrible experiences and are sometimes scarred for life and never recover? I think its sort of like that except on a much shallower level.

As for the poo issue, I'm not really sure about that. Sometimes that just happens. If it happens AGAIN, then maybe call ur local vet. Just a phone call. can't hurt.

  2. she may well be sick. distemper kinda acts like what you are describing. take to the vet right away.

  3. A. Take her to the vet and have her spayed, shell have much less stress in her life..

    B. Cat's are very diverse and make different sounds...She probably stays in the same spot because she's apprehensive..She's obviously been misstreated...Spoil her rotten.. :-)

    C. Please don't be angry with your kitty for having an accident...She's a little sick and needs to see the vet, that's all...The poor baby...

    D. Please plan a trip to the vet, o.k. ?
