Question:

Could these be symptoms of a mild migraine

Yesterday I felt a little detached, with very slight blurred vision, irritable and tired. A bit later I felt sick for about an hour, just before i went to bed. Whilst I was in bed just dozing off I felt what I can only describe a a "pop" in my head which sounded a little like a gun going off. This particuarly scared me as i thouhgt something was seriously wrong. My mum said it sounded like a mild migraine, something I have never suffered from. Could this be what it was? Has anyone else who suffers from these relate to this? Esp. the "pop" sensation?

  1. Hi love,

Don't wish to worry you but I could have an idea about what you're talking about; with the exception of the "pop"!

I am very mildly epileptic (don't panic!!!) and what you describe sounds a bit like a partial seizure. I had 2, 6 months apart before I had my full seizure that got me diagnosed. I don't have to take and meds and it's not a problem.

Let me explain what they feel like to me (they can be different for everyone): I feel very distant, a bit woozy and detached, on both occasions i had a spell of staring into space, which I didn't realise i was doing until someone pointed it out to me. I also felt very incoherent - if someone asked me a question it was like I kind of wasn't listening and couldn't concentrate on what they were saying. This was coupled with a mild to medium headache and, a little later, sever nausea (I threw up!). This only got better after I went to sleep for quite a while, after which I felt much better.

My personal trigger for epilepsy is sleep deprivation so if i don't get much sleep at night, the next morning I'm more prone to a partial (or maybe full) seizure. Though since I've been diagnosed (about 3 years ago) that hasn't happened again.

Some other symptoms are strange feelings in your fingers - like lots of tiny pin pricks, a kind of fizzing in your head, odd vision things. It's very hard to describe!!

Anyway, look up some stuff online about partial seizures and see if anything fits the bill. If it does and you're worried, i'd go and see a GP. And get lots of sleep - just in case!!

    Good luck! x

  2. I dont think it is.  With a migraine you would have constant pain in the head and would sensitive to light and you would be nauseous all the time.  I have no idea what the pop is, but I've had migraines for 13+ years and have never had a 'pop'.

  3. "mild migraine"?  As a long term migraine sufferer I have to say I am absolutely baffled.  If it doesn't come with a headache then I doubt it is a migraine.
