  1. Check with the red cross to see if the condition meets the requirements for emergency leave. The red cross are the ones that handle all the paper work for that.

  2. Probably not DISCHARGED, but they could get emergency leave if things look dire.

  3. Not totally impossible, but extremely difficult and  very rare.

  4. No. The most someone can hope for is a compassionate reassignment of a duty station (not training) or emergency leave (which is temporary).

  5. If you are asking about a permanent discharge, the chances are slim to none.

If an immediate family member is very sick or injured and the Doctor decides the situation fits certain criteria (near death) the Soldier will be able to get time off to visit.

    Notes:

The DOCTOR or HOSPITAL must call the Red Cross for you.  You can not declare an emergency and call the Red Cross yourself.

When the medical people call, they will need the Soldier's Social Security Number and Assigned Unit (or at least Base).

Once the Red Cross makes the call, the process moves extremely quickly.  The Soldier will most likely be home within 36 hours.

HOWEVER, the travel is not necessarily free and the time off is not free.  The Soldier will have priority to board military planes on a space-available basis.  That means that if there happens to be a military aircraft going in the right direction at the right time, the Soldier can catch a ride for free.  Otherwise, commercial travel is at the Soldier's expense.  The Soldier will also be charged leave (vacation) time for the period of absence.

  6. depends on the condition, and the family member.  Need specifics.

a Grandparent dying or in the hospital, for instance.. Not not usually unless said grandparent raised the Recruit.

a wife giving birth: nope not at all unless the child or mother was in imminent danger of dying.

and there is no guarantee a discharge would happen, they may just give them leave and then when they get back they pickup where they left off.
