Could a convenience store clerk ban someone from coming into the store after they've been caught stealing something VERY small such as a candy bar? Wouldn't a law enforcer (such as a police officer) only have the ability to make such judgment?

  1. Ah.... "We reserve the right to refuse admission" sign anywhere there?

By right then, certain places can.

On a side note - a steal is a steal - small or big or tiny - a clerk would naturally be paranoid no matter how unjust it seems - it is his job on the line after all - otherwise he'd be suspected of tampering or theft.. Banning just seems like the easiest answer.

Not entirely sure whose judgement call it is - the clerks or an officers...

  2. The store has the right to ban you.

  3. Yes it does not matter what you steal, shoplifting is shoplifting, whether it's a chocolate bar or a dvd player.  The shop has the right to ban you.  It's up to their own discretion and store's policy, (usually Zero tolerance to shoplifters) whether they decide to call the police on you.

  4. They don't even have to have a reason. It's their property. Obviously, though, no one has to let a thief hang around their property.

  5. It's legal, and stealing is stealing.  Grow up and stop whining.

  6. Yes they can...

  7. yes they can ban u . why would u steal a candy bar? just look for change on the ground.
