Question:

Could this be Celiac Disease?

10-15 minutes after I eat (not everytime, I've noticed, but usually) I get terrible diarrhea, and it's uncontrollable. It'll happen anywhere, anytime, even i just eat a light snack. In fact, it happened this morning. Twice.

Here's what I had to eat this morning:

-Bowl of Life Cinnamon Cereal (no milk) and juice

It happed again last night. I had:

-Grilled cheese sandwich and granola bar, plus water

I am just wondering if it could be Celiac. I thought about IBS, but it doesn't happen all the time. It seems to happen when I have some kind of bread or something. Like, it didn't happen the other morning when I had yogurt and juice. Any comments and advice is appreciated!

  1. You'd have to go to your doctor and be tested to be sure. Before my mum was diagnosed with it, she had terrible stomach cramps and pains, and she felt very ill after eating any wheat foods. Go to your doctors and mention your symptoms and ask if it could be this. The quicker you do this the better for you because if it is, you will need to change your diet as soon as possible to stop further damage to your bowels. Hope this helps =]

  2. Sure sounds like an intolerance of some sort. You may have a combination of intolerances as well.

You want to get to your doc as soon as possible, your diet is chock full of gluten (and lactose) (cereal, granola bar, bread, and maybe the cheese)  so you are ok to get tested now. Here is the bloodwork screening that you will need:

but the one test you want for sure is the t-TG.

Please call your doc and since you are having weight loss, it is especially important that you get tested for celiac. DON"T let them put you off on getting the test. It is a screening test and should be done right away. Some docs still think it is rare for I don't know what reason (1 out of every 130 people are celiacs, most undiagnosed).

If you do come back positive, make sure your first degree relatives are screened for it as well since it is a genetic autoimmune disease.

Good Luck and I hope you feel better soon!

  3. Sounds exactly like celiac, please go get tested by a stomach doctor.Celiac can damage your intestinal track. It set up Norwalk Virus on me before i was diagnosed.I still watch everything i put in my mouth. So much stuff has wheat in it.The cinnamon Life you ate had lots of wheat in it.So did the grilled cheese and granola bar.
