I really like the african name Ajani but I only like it for a girl, it is a boys name meaning He Who Wins The Struggle or He who fights for possession

could it work for a girl? if not what are some similar sounding african girls names

of course it can work for a girl, you don't have to tell people it is a boys name... there are lots of girls with boys names and vice versa any way. Alani is similar, but it is Hawaiian for Orange Tree.

Yeah, because most people won't even know what it means.  It does not sound like a boy's name at all.  It's very pretty and feminine.  Ajani... has a nice ring to it!  It's definitely a girl's name! :)

Anyways, in some cultures (such as hawaiian) the name of your child can take a whole new meaning depending on the perception of the person giving the name... its a beautiful name. I think that if you would like your baby girl to posess the quality of  always winning a struggle, you should go for it.
