Question:

Could this be anxiety or something else?

For a week now I have been lightheaded, and a buzzing tingling sensation on my head that goes and comes all day. Also a kind of numbness in my head and lips. The doctor really couldn't tell me what it is. I took a blood test and waiting for the results. I'm starting to think it's anxiety. I'm not really sure about taking medication for it. Anyways, is it standard for the doctor to take all the tests first to rule out anything else before diagnosing it as anxiety?

  1. I had a similar feeling to you & my Dr. said it was my sinus's & now I have to take Claritin everyday although it doesn't seem to help as I am constantly dizzy all day. If you explained exactly how you felt to your Dr. & if they thought it was anxiety, they would give you medicine right then & there, because anxiety can lead to worse problems if untreated. I hope your blood test is okay. Good luck.~

  2. Of course it is, at least with a good doctor, then they can rule out physical illness - I've recently been diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism through taking a blood test ..... However I'm wondering if you could be a migraine sufferer ... or perhaps a bit anaemic.... or perhaps you are concentrating too hard on the things you do .... research migraines and see if anything matches up with how your feel - wait for the test results to come back - in the meantime try to do some relaxation exercises like lying on the floor on your back, and from your toes to the top of your head, tighten the muscles for 5 secs and then relax them immediately, work your way up from your toes, to your feet, to your calves, to your thighs, your buttocks, your stomach, your chest, your fingers, hands, arms, shoulders, back, neck and then your facial muscles.... take a little time to do this.... do this at least once a day in a quiet, darkened place .... see if this helps .... Oh, and drink water rather than tea or coffee - that will help to flush your system of toxins .....

  3. It is absolutely normal for a Doc to take tests to eliminate any physical causes for the symptoms you have. Otherwise he would be working "blind" so to speak. If I were you I would wait for the blood test results to come through & see if there is a physical cause for it or not.
