  1. I won't address the toilet issue (others have done that), but the broader issue of potential mold in the apartment, especially since another apartment had it.

Here are a list of potential symptoms...

    Scary.

If you choose not to move out, consider the remarkable research on toxic mold removal done by environmental expert Dr Ed Close. Simply diffusing Thieves essential oil regularly will likely result in an environment very hostile to mold.

Cost of a diffuser and a couple bottles of the Thieves oil that Dr Close recommends to his remediation clients: about $200.

  2. Mold ...

    Mildew ...

    Must be a Scottish toilet.

    Am I right?

  3. When this starts happening to mine, I know I need to clean out the tank. I pour Lysol liquid all-purpose cleaner in the tank, and either use a brush or sponge to clean the walls and bottom of the tank. You have to keep flushing and holding down the handle and push all the black down through the drain pipe. There will also be evidence of mold under the lid to the tank. I have sprayed it with Lysol room disinfectant and wiped it away with a old rag or cleaning cloth. I have also used Tilex on it and let it stand until the mold disappears. Then, I clean the bowl with Lysol bowl cleaner. This works for some time before it builds up again, and it doesn't seem to harm the pipes or inter gaskets of the tank. Good luck.

  4. get any brand of clorox toilet bowl cleaner and that should do the trick. it wont hurt any septic or sewage lines, and it leaves a clean nice smell. i use it often. mine has a blue color to it. dont use the cleaners that has a rod to place on the side of the bowl (resembles a bar of soap) it can come off and clog your lines. it may be mold or just really bad bacteria. ive found that clorox is the best. plus, it is rather inexpensive. (im always looking for a deal, being a mother!)

  5. If bleach doesnt work, which it probably will not...youll still have a ring, use sno bol....long necked bottle to clean rings out of toilets.  Removes rust and hard water spots in toilet....and mold!!!

  6. its your water it has to much chemicals in your water

  7. It is almost undoubtedly mold/mildew.  Use chlorine bleach to remove it (pour 100 ml or so into the bowl, swish it around with a brush and let it sit for 20 minutes or so).

Prevent its recurrence by adding something like 2000 Flushes or other chlorine-based continuous cleaner to the tank.
