Could this be paranormal?

Once in a great while i'll wake up in the middle of the night to my dog looking at something in the room. And then his head will slowly move. It freaks me out because i mean thats a little freaky and u don't know what it is. and it's pitch black. i know dogs and little kids can see paranormal things easily but i just know if it was just my dog acting up or if it was something else.

Not paranormal, just extrasapiens. Like all other non-sentient animals dogs possess sensory fidelity far beyond our own. Our systems are more complex and self-awareness has obvious advantages but it requires a huge amount of our brains processing power. Our cousins lower down on the encephalitic scale definitely pick up more input than we do but, lacking imagination, they often don't know what to make of it. Human children don't become self-aware til about 4 or 5 years and share this trait, though to a lesser extent. Hence imaginary friends, etc. Think about that.

Yes dude that is weird. Unless your dog is crazy or you have mice or something in your walls dogs dont normally wake up in the night and start looking into the dark.

It's possible that he could be seeing something. Animals usually are more attuned to these types of things.

it is not rare for dogs as well a humans to have insomnia, and so when you wake up the dog hears you, he/she turns to see if you are a threat, or its master. It's normal. Don't worry.

your dog could be seeing paranormal things, dogs and children are more sensitive to these things because they aren't blocking things out like older human beings do, due to work, school, every day things, etc, etc. i wouldn't be afraid, if you aren't seeing/hearing/feeling things just leave it be, you don't want to stir up something so you're scared all of the time.

My house is haunted. My dog does the same thing. When I first got my dog about 9 months ago, he would bark really vicious and move his head like he was following something, or sometimes he would just stare at the wall. He must have gotten used to it, because now he will just jump up randomly at night and follow something with his eyes, without barking.  Every now and then he will growl, though. He stares at about the height of me, so I think it is a ghost.

Your dog was angling his head to hear better.He was probably twitching his ears as well.You can fool kids into thinking they see paranormal things easily.Dogs,to their credit aren't as easy to convince.

i live with a ghost/spirit, she is a young girl that had a mean aunt. she has made contact with me by phone. that call made me a true believer! (more on the phone call at end) so... at first she was mad at me, till i told her i'm not the one who hurt her. i told her i didn't mind if she stayed in my home. i told her i like her being here and she can stay as long as she wants. i told her i didn't know what happened to her, but i wish i knew, and felt sorrow for her. so anyways... i always leave the tv on at night.(most ghosts/spirits like tv) one night i woke up... Wide Awake! (i think she had something to do with that) and went for a drink of water,(usually i just go back to sleep) as i walked past the tv, antiques roadshow was on. i HEARD the guy say "sinister aunt"... when he said "SPINAKER aunt". they were looking at an old painting... of... the girls family! left to right was: her mom, her on the piano, fireplace, baby in bassinet, her brother, and her aunt,sitting at a spinning wheel. the aunt was THE sinister/spinaker, (a spinaker:is one who uses a spinning wheel) the father had long passed. in a split second i think she threw what happened into my thoughts... mom and brother went to town for supplies(town was far in them days) she stayed home ,the aunt watched her and the baby. she was playing the piano. the aunt got mad and said stop. she continued to play a bit more to finish the song. the aunt was so mad she slammed the piano key cover on her little hands crippling them... sorry this next part is a bit graffic... not knowing what to do, or how to explain to her mother, she killed the girl and hid the body, and told the mother she ran away. THIS WHOLE THOUGHT/IMAGE CAME TO ME IN A SPLIT SECOND AS I GLANCED AT THE TV! before i went back to sleep i told her how sorry i felt for her and my heart aches for her. NOW TO THE PHONE CALL! a couple nights later as i went to bed,i told her i wish i knew what her name was. 2:30ish my cellphone rings. i figure it's a wrong number (you know,bar time) THEN... voicemail chimes in. maybe one of my friends needs a ride home.(i don't drink) so i call it (i'm in michigan, my cell has a california area code, 310 for travel) the voicemail is from cali'...310! it's a girl, she said.. high john it's mandy,(my name is john)it's kinda late, (11:30ish in cali) i won't make it over tonight, maybe friday we can get coffee or somthing. call me. bye. Ooo.Kay...so it's just a wrong number? or was it? she was calling john, (my name is john, 310---310) i call her back to tell her she DIALED a wrong number and my name is john, and i have a 310 area code but i'm in michigan, but i'm not HER friend john in cali., and she still needs to call him. GET THIS!!! SHE SAID SHE DIDN'T DIAL! she used her phones contact to call! but it went to MY phone. i called sprint, they said, that can't happen. BUT IT DID! now i know her name is Mandy,.some day soon i'm going to get a piano for her to play. thats what she wants to do. WOWW I JUST GOT A CHILL...BUT PEACEFUL...she must be sitting with me at the computer. i will get the piano soon Mandy :-)

My dog did that too but he would hear barking blocks away so it woke him up.Animals do hear and see things we don't as their eye's and ears  are 100 times more stronger than humans.

He may just be messing with your head. I had a dog that liked doing that. Used to freak me out. But yes. Dogs can sense things that we cannot see or hear. It could easily be something paranormal. Depending on where you live, house, country, farm, apartment, highrise, it could be anything. Cat in heat, moth on the window, or just the wind.

I saw this on a show called Mystery Hunters.  A dog's senses are far more sensitive than ours.  They can pick up noises that we cannot here, but it doesn't always means it's a ghost.  But rather it can mean your dog is listening something outside, or even a bug in the room if it's loud enough.

And since it's a strange sound, it would interest him.

Wihle it probably does look creepy, I would guess that Rover is simply reacting to stimuli that you are unable to hear. It sounds to me like he is hearing something, and tracking it with his head, and you are not able to hear it. He could be listening to bugs in the wall, or across the floor, or maybe a mouse, or even something outside. Dogs' sense of hearing is way more acute than ours, so don't be surprised if he does things like this from time to time.

Animals tend to have 6th sense, if this happens often then maybe it is paranormal.

To know for sure, use a video camera and leave it on during the night then play it the next day. One person has experienced this same problem with their dog that would whimper during the night before and did what i am telling you and recorded the shutters closing and opening and also the back security light turning on their back porch while the dog watched outside.
