i have a theory about global warming...

could the earth be warming up because we are extracting too much oil from the ground? i.e. like an engine, the earth needs oil to cool itself.. am i right in having these thoughts?

    No.

    The Earth does not work that way. Oil makes up only a very very small percentage of the very upper crust of the Earth.

    Oil is a product of decomposing organic matter in anoxic conditions. The Earth does not "use" it in any way. There is absolutely no analog between the Earth and an engine.

    Global warming is a natural process that is affected by natural cycles on Earth and natural changes in the way Earth moves around the sun.

  3. No.  You are incorrect.  While the earth is a heat engine, producing heat at the center and releasing it at the surface, the analogy with a man-made mechanical engine can be taken too far.  Oil is not needed as a lubricant or coolant for the planet.

    The causes of global warming are fairly well understood, at least the anthropogenic ones are.
