Question:

Could this be why the law is hard on men who hit women...?

OK anyone with half a brain knows it's dangerous to slap a child but I just read something surprising, I read that a man slapping a woman can cause detached retinas, brain damage and even death. If it is true how hard do you think he'd have to slap to cause that type of damage? Does this explain why the law takes men hitting women more seriously?

  1. Imposter H is right.  You never hear about the size differences of men involved in fights; they're just idiots for taking on bigger men and got what they deserved.  The law has little to do with size differences.  It has much more to do with tradition and sexism than anything.  Of course, a man shouldn't be hitting a woman just because he's mad.  But if she hits him violently and he respons with violence, I don't feel a d**n bit sorry for her.  You should've thought about that before you decided to take on somebody bigger, princess.

I'd imagine it would take a heck of a hit to do that much damage.  I'm 5'10" and around 150 lbs. with very little upper-body strength, so I seriously doubt I could do anywhere near this much damage.  But you can bet I'll be treated the same as a man who's 6'5" and 240 lbs. if I hit a woman, because it's about s*x, not size, more than anything.

  2. Of course that's true.  The question is whether or not it should be true.  I'm 6'5 220lbs.  If a guy who is 5'10 140lbs attacks me and I hit him hard enough to detach his retina, does the law take his side?  No, the law is still on my side.  He attacked me, he deserved to get hit.  Personally, I would never hit a woman nor have I ever met a woman who was insane enough to hit me.  However, the law should be about actions and choice and not about size or intelligence.

  3. well ya bang your brain around enough it's going to cause damage.

Has the same effect for men.

No I dont think it has anything to do with the law, and men hitting women.

  4. It's news to me that the law does take a man hitting a woman seriously...

  5. Yes, perhaps it could very well be.  Men should remember that they are physically stronger than a woman and the power they have behind each and every blow could very well do some major damage.  =P
