Question:

Could this have been a miracle?

I returned Dawkin's 'God Delusion' to the library ages ago only to remember I accidentally left my mermaid bookmark in the book.

Anyways, two months later, I check the same book back out and lo and behold! My mermaid bookmark is still there!

It's of sentimental value since my little sister made it for me.

Was it a miracle?

  1. yes

  2. No, Atheists are typically kinder so one left it there for you to find.

  3. No.  It means that not enough people are on the same plane as you.

  4. Well I guess if you define the term as an unlikely event that you hoped would occur.

    Then sure.

But if we look at what actually happened I do not think it is likely that we would be left in the dark as to the forces at work behind this occurrence and thus we would be able to conclude that the event did not seemingly violate natural laws and thus indicates the existence of a transcendental supernatural realm, being, god etc.

  5. Ella...I doubt it dear... More likely that Dawkins book is not that popular.  The God Delusion  lacked detail and was not a very well put together. I know atheist who feel the same.. Dawkins has written some good books. This was not one of them. Try leaving it in his book " The Selfish Gene" and see what happens... I have heard that's a good one.. Hope this helped...God bless you !

PS: If your a fan of Dawkins you might want to check out his debate on You Tube with Dr. John Lennox the Christian professor from Oxford.. It was pretty good.

  6. Nobody checked the book out after you, but I'm glad you found it.

  7. Yes.

  8. Maybe...

I'd just see it as proof that your PI skills include having an excellent memory.

  9. Well, it doesn't bode well for Dawkins' popularity in your hometown, but still...

  10. Is "an act of god" honestly the most likely explanation to you?

  11. Just a fortunate coincidence.

  12. No

  13. No.  It probably means nobldy else borrowed the book after you returned it.  Or if somebody else did borrow it, they were not interested in your bookmark.

  14. no, unless it grew a new limb.

  15. There are times, many times, during a day, when I say something like, "God, if I only had stapler."  And lo and behold, suddenly, I spot  stapler, where I was certain there hadn't been one there a minute ago. Then I spend the rest of day trying to remember exactly what I was saying or thinking right before I needed a stapler.  If I can ever figure out the right formula, maybe I'll be able say, "God, if only I had a million dollars."

  16. No. It takes more then that to be a miracle. Fortunate yes, but that's it.

  17. i think so. have you ever heard the song "ordinary miracle?" well it's about God's small miracles that happens every day. and i think that one was one for you :)

  18. I guess because no one else had checked it out since then.

So, did you get any late fees?

  19. I doubt it.

  20. Miracle - No

    Luck - Yes

  21. naw, just coincidence. By the way, did you happen to go to the same library? there are chances, and sometimes chances/probability can be slim or high, nevertheless, they will occur.

  22. Uh...sure!
