Question:

Could this really bit it??

Em has been drooling and "teething" for nearly 3 months now. Finally on Saturday a teeny tiny little white spec popped up on her bottom row of gums. It is such a small spot that we've been waiting for it to pull back in but so far, nothing.

Anyway, Em has been very, very fussy the past several days. She won't eat her whole bottle (she usually drinks 5 ounces every 3.5 hours and she's been drinking 3-4 ounces instead). She's had a small fever and a few loose bowel movements, but nothing major.

She's been waking up at night every 2 hours screaming bloody murder. It's truly unpleasant!! :)

So, is this really it? Is this what teething is like? What can I do to help her if it is? Tylenol, orajel, and teething tablets have done very little to ease the pain :(

Thanks!

P.S. YAY I'm so excited! I can't wait to see her smiling at me with a mouthful of tiny little teeth!

  1. Yes mam, it really is it. Congrats Em!!!! Here are a copule of things that can help out.

    First : http://www.gentlenaturals.com/products/t...

this is a cream that you can put on that will really soothe your child

Second: I believe it's called Benzadent. Make sure though. I may just be a letter or two off. But that works wonders!!!

    Good luck, and congrats.

  2. Sounds like it

I am at the same point in my motherhood!

I asked my doctor about it the other day - because I too wanted to give my son some infant tylenol... the doctor said not to. He said it is more irritating/annoying and ticklish than painful for them AND said they will have much worse pains to bear in their life so letting them learn to deal with it a bit is a part of growing.

I was surprised because usually docs like to medicate.

Anyway - I will happily follow the doctors advice...

I am so excited too! But a little sad too - that toothless grin was soooo adorable!

  3. My second baby got two teeth at 3 months. Yes, yours could be teething.

  4. Yes this is really it and all you can give her is Tylenol, orajel, and teething tablets or at least those are things that i used. Just hang in there it will get better. When I went back to work and me and my husband made a calender with every other day an R and an M so that meant every other night was my night then his. So that way we were both guaranteed a full nights rest at least every other night.

  5. YAY!!! She is getting her first set of Chompers...awww...yes this is what teething is like, and once the 1st one comes in there are plenty more to come...poor things.

Im sorry the regular solutions are not working. I would try a half wet wash cloth frozen, see if she would take that and hope fully it will numb it a bit. Take your finger or knuckle clean of course and lay her in your arms and rub her gums. It will soothe the pain a bit and help the tooth come out more.

I wish you luck, I have been dealing with the teething bit  for awhile now. Its taking its sweet time....but the teething tablets have worked for Sarah.

Good Luck, and watch your toes when baby is around...had a cousin who did sneak attacks and chomped on toes when teething...lol..

  6. Yep- she's teething! All the symtoms are normal, and as sopon as my baby got his first, they started coming in regularly. Not all the teeth are gonna be as bad, it seems like the front ones are the hardest to come in and the most painful for a baby. My son is 2 now and I noticed the other day that he had gotten a new molar- I just didn't know because I guess it didn't bother him at all. I honestly found Tylenol to be the best thing. The teething tablets didn't seem to work very well. Good luck and congratulations

  7. I think that you should just give her toys and everything. I think this is teething. A lot of kids teeth differently. At night try giving her benadryl. It won't really ease the pain but it will her her fall asleep.

  8. certainly sounds like a tooth! first, don't worry if she doesn't eat much. that's totally normal and not a problem. as for pain relief, the only thing that ever worked for ruby was infant motrin. it lasts 8 hours (tylenol is 4-6) so if you give her a dose right before bed, she may be able to rest. once the tooth actually breaks through, even though it takes a while for it to make its way all the way up, the pain should stop. for ruby, she suffered similarly through the bottom two (which came in together, one just a few days behind the other) and the top two (same pattern), but, since then, she has popped 4 molars and two other teeth, and it has been nothing -- they barely bother her.

for daytime relief, everyone has a different remendy: frozen washcloths, whole cucumbers, chilled teething rings, teething beads, sterling silver teething rings (stay cold), ice inside a mesh feeder, and on and on. what i have found is that every baby has her own preference, so just keep trying till she finds something that she likes.

    good luck!!
