Could tree huggers survive a set back to the late 19'th century?

Could the libs hunt their food? Could they grow their own food? I wonder about these things. I am pretty much a redneck from New Hampshire who hunts his own meat and heats his house with a wood stove. But I look at some of these flatlanders and think to myself, how would these people survive if we ever went through some sort of regression beck to the late 1800's or something. What will they do with no text messaging and internet. Will they rely on me to feed them, that would be ironic I suppose.

  1. Who'd do better:

    1) Overweight, F350 driving redneck without any gasoline, electricity, or stores to buy bullets

    - or -

    2) Physically fit, tree-hugging environmentalist with self-generating wind/solar power stations at home, organic garden and a bicycle

  2. Actually it was being raised in the foot hills of Tenn that lead me to have interest in the environment. We always had plenty of food and didn't depend on the outside world very often.Lived healthier and cleaner then most people in the city.During those days we would sell our produce to them and bartered among ourselves.I never liked labeling people because you find good and bad on both sides.

To answer your question I doubt if many of them actually knows what it really takes to survive. It's hard work and has less environmental impact then most people could comprehend...and the rewards are far greater.

  3. I LOLed

  4. When you mine/smelt the lead to make your own bullets, make your own gunpowder, smelt bog iron for your own axeheads to cut your wood (you do use an axe and not a chainsaw right?), grow your own grain, and make no use whatsoever of anything modern industry provides, then you can crow about being completely self-sufficient.

Most of us aren't going to survive a setback to the 19'th century.  Statistically, that includes you.

  5. Are you kidding me, no way, They would be lost without their Triple-caramel-Half soy, Half Nonfat-mocha-Venti Latte's, although they could eat their french poodles

  6. Well, it was completely possible to be a vegan, flaming liberal tree hugger back in the late 19th century. It wasn't as primitive as you seem to think. But I do agree with you. The sheer appeacance and smell of most "granola's" is testiment to thier inability to take of them themselves. The lack of basic hygiene is alarming. But not to worry, it Darwin was even half sane they will all die off eventually.

  7. Probably as well as anybody else.

  8. If anybody could survive it would tend to be those that have already been doing it, ie treehuggers aka environmentalists.

We environmentalists are socially aware, so we would help you  feed others. It sounds to me that you are well on your way to being a Treehugger yourself, Mr Self Sufficient in fuel and food! ha ha

    Interesting .........

  9. I have to admit people like you do have some advantages.  In a warming world with rising sea levels, all you have to do is hook up the old pickup to your house and roll it to higher ground.  And, you won't need to worry about an increase in your deodorant budget, after all you've never worried about it before.

  10. Are you kidding? We would grow our food and become vegetarians. It's healthier anyway. I'd learn how to make tofu.

It's not possible that we would regress back to the 1800s unless the Republicans lead us there because of their obsession with power since they already have 90% of the wealth.

  11. Richard's lack of understanding of American individualism and industrialness is revealing.  Too many leftist are ashamed of America and seek to turn it into a wimpy country.   America would never have been a great country if liberals and environmentalists had any influence in the 19th century.  We wouldn't have ever conquered the west.  The left hates it when someone uses natural resources to produce anything it seems.  That is what made America great.  With the road blocks they keep throwing up, you have to wonder how long we will remain great.

  12. I doubt cons would survive. They would want the largest wagon they could find (because they need it for safety and hauling their 1 kid around) and would have to have too many horses/oxen to pull it, which would in turn limit their own supply of grains (having gone to the animals). We'll call it grain-guzzling...

Also, the "need" for an extremely large cabin (not to mention heating it) would necessitate the cutting down of too much forest. Consequently destroying animal habitat and the food source.

EDIT - And Jim Z would not have the rights he has today without liberals! America is a great country, precisely because of the Liberals who helped author our beloved constitution. The left hates it when we over-consume, because they understand there is a balance that must be maintained with nature. Individualism is not the hallmark of the cons. Liberalism is the bedrock of individualism. Liberalism provided the rights and free will enjoyed by the individual.

  13. Since most of them eat fish and chicken so I suppose hunting wouldn't be necessary. Growing a small garden is not brain surgery. Thing is without tree huggers you may not have any woods left to hunt in, so that's also ironic. In south Louisianna my Dad told me that as a child there were no deer due to poaching left unchecked. Only since game regulations and consevation efforts has the population been able to rebound to the point hunting is even possible again.
