Question:

Could vinegar break a dishwasher?

i heard on "how clean is your house" that running an empty load of just vinegar in the dishwasher would break up the grease and clean it out (just as a weekly maintenance type deal). Well, i poured a little bit of vinegar in the dishwasher, ran it empty and now the dishwasher won't work. no water is coming out when the load is ran. do you think it was the vinegar? or could it just have been coincidental, and maybe the dishwasher was in bad shape regardless?

  1. Hmm, well perhaps if the grease was broken up in the machine, it could have caused some blockage in the pipes.  I really don't know for sure.  I would advise, however, that in the future you don't treat your appliances in a way not specifically recommended by the manufacturer.  If nothing else, it voids the warranty.

  2. No the vinegar was not the problem  Most manufacturers recommend a vinegar rinse monthly.   Call the plumber.
