No, war will not end.  People will always fight over something. It has nothing to do with governments.  People have been fighting long before there were any established countries.  Governments only serve to make war on a much grander scale and tend to have better technology and resources.  And yes, war is h**l, but without it, we may not be here as free people today.  Or we wouldn't have many of the everyday household items we have today since they were originally made for war.  I'm not saying war is a good thing, but there are good things that do come out of it.

In what way is war bad for the environment?

The only threat to the environment is man and his activities.  Any reduction in the population has to be good for the environment, doesn't it?

You say no good things come out of war but the defeat of evil is a good thing, isn't it?  I don't disagree about the horror of war and that it would be humane if we all stopped and settled our differences by peaceful means but it is possible to be too simplistic about these things.

I take issue with your assertion about war and the environment ..... UNLESS you mean the environment as WE HUMANS experience it ..... That is whole different proposition from the environment in general and raises its own problems.

There is a trade-off between the environment for the short/medium term benefit of man and the environment for the  long term benefit of the rest of nature.  You have to choose.  We all do.

Life is never as simple as we would like it to be.  The more you learn about it, the more you realise remains to be learnt which is why it is so much easier to have all the answers when you are young.  Enjoy it while it lasts.

There has always been war, and there always will be.  Peace is an ideal we hypothesize because there have been times in our memory when we have not been at war.
