Question:

Could we convert downtrodden malls and mini malls to photovoltaic solar energy generators?

Every city has malls that have outlived their value and are essentially a vast wasteland. Instead of trying to salvage a mall that is no longer supported by locals, why not use that space to place solar panels over the entire area ... as calculated by solar energy experts ... and send the electricity directly to the grid? I know of several such malls and some of these have a major power line running directly through the parking lot. We need electricity and this could help decentralize the power structure in a positive way. Many are built next to major thoroughfares so would have little or no impact on neighborhoods. Many are being either ignored or torn down but most of them provide no value to anyone.

  1. Its a good idea coupled with what eric says it makes much more sense.

In fact all malls, multiplexes, office buildings should have solar panels on their roof tops so that they at least generate some power during daytime.

This is a good choice for daytime power generation.

  2. That would be a waste of valuable land.

A better idea would be to redevelop the mall and place slar cells on the roofs of the new buildings.

Remember that any environmental initiative must first be a viable business plan or it will fail once the funding support is withdrawn.

  3. Sure you can: First. Start your corporation!

Second: Decide to either go public or operate as a

    Proprietery.

Third: If public, establish the IPO. Private? Good for you,a

wise and foreward investment of your fortunes!

  4. The problem is that not enough people have gotten fed up with the way our energy source are being managed. its easier to stay with the status quo. the technolgy is there and getting more cost effective. we are comfortably numb by just pluging things in the outlet and not worrying where it comes from or how we can conserve it. If people would consider how much they are willing to spend the latest HD TV or other expensive electronics and instead invest in putting panels on their roof to provide their own power and sell any extra back to the power company we could all breath a little easier.
