I've been hearing about many tornadoes this past week. There was an article saying the this year has had the most tornadoes since 1998. There have been tornadoes this year where you least expect them. There was one in Colorado. I've never heard about a tornado over there. I've always heard about snow storms. And there was a tornado in Atlanta a couple of months ago. Atlanta never gets tornadoes. And let's not forget the tornadoes in the Midwest a couple days ago. I have a feeling that we haven't seen the worst of it yet.

  1. It is true there we are on track for a record tornado year... but that is if the tornado trend continues. The Storm Prediction Center in Norman Oklahoma keeps tornado statistics on-line and if you take a look, you will see that tornadoes happen in every state and in every month of the year. http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/online/mon...

As far as feeling the worst of it, it depends where you live. I live in Ohio and our peak tornado month is July with a spike again in November. The peak period for tornadoes in the southern plains is May into early June. On the Gulf coast, it is earlier during the spring; in the northern plains and upper Midwest, it is June or July. So if you live in an area that has not peaked yet, you probably have not seen the worst yet. Since we cannot control when and where a tornado will strike, it's best to get ready now and have a plan...just in case.

  2. I think it might get worse, but I don't know.

  3. This is something you just can't predict.  Just because there were a bunch of tornadoes in the last few weeks doesn't mean there will be more in the next few weeks.

Remember a few years ago when we had Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and a bunch more.  The next year there were hardly any.  You just can't tell with the weather.
