I was offered a 66k pounds a year gross salary in the UK. We will live in the South-East renting a house for about 800-1000 pcm. We have 2 kids 2 and 6 years old. So please could anyone help me to do the maths. Could you tell me how do you manage.

  1. Are you kidding me? You claim to have been offered a role for with that salary and you're unable to calculate whether it's enough to support you and your family. What job is this? I know millions of dole dossers who need a job and this sounds ideal.

On to the question, yes, it is more than enough with a lot more to spare.

  2. reasonably well, your salary/month after deductions will be @£3000-3200 which will leave you with £2k/m for utilities and disposable income

  3. If your capable pf earning 66K then perhaps you can afford a financial adviser who can help you with the transition. He or she will take into account how you are going to manage your money. On that figure I'm not sure you should ask for free advice

  4. Well, in my humble opinion you should be OK, quite comfortable. You probably will not get any help from the state though (but this might be worth looking into; like Child Benefit).

The only thing I am doubting is the rent for a HOUSE at £800-1000. But I suppose it depends on where you will live in the South East. Also on the SIZE of the house. (Where I live, you can just about rent a a 2 bedroom FLAT for that amount).

Look into the Council Tax you will have to pay (on your local council's website) (monthly OR you can pay it for the whole year). There is TV licence, car insurance, (and all other car expenses), gas, electricity...

You can pay almost everything monthly.

Calculate about £200 per week for groceries - you can manage on less than that, but with two children, you just never know...

People manage on a lot less than £66K a year...
