Question:

Could we start a revolution in America?

I don't mean peaceful protest, but an all out overthrowing of the government, starting a new one, better rules, better society.

The purpose, at least until we have passed on the burden of leadership to the next generation, will be to lower costs.

I'm talking a government without rich oil farmers running it.

Would it be possible? I'm not saying me, or you, needs to start it, what I'm saying is us, all the people of America.

The question isn't if you disagree with the ideal or not, its weather if enough people wanted to, what would be possible?

4 years of college on top of high school just to earn a mediocre living is ridiculous. so are gas prices. Ciggarette taxes?

Come on! Its nonsense, every year I get closer and closer to not being able to afford the standard of living and I have a pretty good job.

How could a revolution be started.

How could other members join secretly.

How could a government spread out so much even be fought?

  1. They tried in the late 60's early 70's, it didn't work. Government rules, we loose.

  2. good luck.  no matter how bad you think it is here, you're still luckier than 90% of the worlds population.

now, look around at every revolution that ever occurred in history.  are you ready for the bloodshed?  also, once it's started, are you ready to defend your ideology against those that have a completely different one?  who's to say that when the revolution was over, what you had intended would be on top of the hill?  seems to me that the gangs & criminal networks would have a leg up in the arms department.  I think that if you try and overthrow what we have now, you'll be very sorry that you did.

  3. its completely doable ppl just need motivation and organization.

  4. sure, you could START one...but if i were a betting man, which i'm not,  i'd bet you end up in jail or at the business end of an m-16.

  5. The biggest problem is that we have trusted our government for so long that most americans tend to stand by it no matter how wrong it is.  That is why I plan to vote for the first truly liberal candidate that actually makes it to the polls.  This country was founded on the belief that you should have the right to do ANYTHING you want just so long as you dont infringe on the rights of others.  Of course, that is no longer the case.  I would join in a heartbeat.  Of course, the only way would be to find a way to massively coordinate MILLIONS of americans at once, and as long as the churches run this country, then that can never happen.  Check out my group at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/AFT...

Sure, it is mostly about the legalization of marijuana, but it really pertains to ALL rights that we should have and do not.  I want to organize protests and whatever else it takes to really put the voters back in charge of this country.

  6. Right now it would not even do any good because the problem we have is a problem happening all over the world.  I recently went to Germany and was astounded by those high prices over there.  My best friedn is Russian, when she came back she was crying about how prices in Russia have soared....So I do not think that a revolution would take care of things as we wished.

Another argument is that even though prices got outrageous(food prices went up 30%--but oh, we got only 4.3% inflation--yeah right), gas prices soared sky high, not to talk about medical expenses, most people are complacent:  they live with it.  Their thing is that you "cannot change" the system...."that's how the system works" and so forth.  I think the only time we had a good chance at throwing this government out and starting a new one is if we went into another deep depression....

  7. The thing is, I dont have a better idea than democracy.

    Do you?

Communism, while in theory is great, wont work!

    Want to have a king?

Do you want to be the king??

I can only say that while I hate what our democracy has become, there is no one with a better plan.

    Peace!

  8. YOU  won't have to do anything. Just wait and see if the dollar tanks and the economy crashes.  If it does, and most people are hungry, thirsty and in some cases homeless--and when the government starts filling up all those detention centers, built for "illegal aliens," with American citizens.  That is when you will see why so many people get so worked up about folks trying to s***w around with the second amendment/right to bear arms.  Because, at that point,  those weapons will begin to be put to very good use.  It'll be do or die time.  Whomever is left standing will be able to form whatever type of government they please.

  9. im down

  10. A revolution at this stage of the game would surely leave us wide open to the terrorists. They would come in and help you in your efforts, then take over when all is lost. Do you really want a dictatorship in this country?  The Govt is not handling it well but without them, there is no leadership. One strong leader would have to be chosen, might makes right. Military law would take over. Don't go from bad to worse.

  11. Yes, we could, but not in the communistic sense, if all legal Americans exercised their right to vote and used it wisely without listening to the Media, we could do a revolution by voting with common sense and not lift a weapon against the Govt.

We must put real pressure on all govt servants (yes, we pay them so that means they work for us). Give the President the Line Item veto, that would give him/her the power to eliminate the pork and special favors. With help from the people the FairTax could be passed which would close the lobbyist loopholes we have now and this also would put money back into the local govt where it would be easier for the American Citizens to control and vote for or against how the $$ is spent and control who stays or goes.

  12. Benjamin Franklin said something along the lines of, that it is not only our right but our duty to over throw the government when it stops listening to its people.

  13. And just who would you put in control that knows how to run a nation?

  14. Thomas Jefferson looked at the declaration of Independence and said it seemed like a good idea, but would need a revolution every ten years to clean out the bureaucrats. We're kinda overdue, and the crooks are pretty well entrenched.

A revolution, armed in the streets variety, COULD work. After all, we outnumber them. The real power of the People is where we work and where we spend our money.

Boycott and strike are supremely powerful tools.

  15. It will never happen.  First people are lazy.  Second they are apathetic.  Third, we have it pretty good compared to most of the world.  Fourth, the people who did it the first time, although completely flawed, were much wiser that anyone around right now.  We'd likely end up in a dystopia.  Fifth, seriously, try to get anyone to do anything.  Not unless their lives directly depend on it will people do anything.  What the framer of the constitution were wise enough to see is that there is no consensus, ever.  No one ever agrees with anyone else.  We all can only agree to disagree, and reach compromise.  Unfortunately even intelligent debate, the foundation of our entire government, is too much work for anyone anymore, and since the corporations took over it isn't even encouraged.  Just buy stuff.  That's all we are anymore.  If you want to really change things, stop buying stuff.  Reduce, reuse, recycle.  In that order.  You lessen corporate profits, you'll weaken their hold on government, you'll have more of your mediocre pay for your self and savings, you'll help the environment, you'll stop supporting slave labor, and you'll actually make a difference.  Just stop consuming.  Bloody revolutions aren't likely anymore, so have a personal revolution against the system and stop buying things.

  16. There will never be revolution as you define it in America.  Revolutions are caused by widespread, deep feelings of separation from the ruling class.  Our ruling class comes from all socio-economic levels and everyone can point to someone like Obama and believe they can also become, if not president, someone important.  Those avenues aren't available to most other societies and do not support revolution.  You may be pouring coffee with a Master's degree, but you got the Master's degree - you just don't know what to do with it.  Anyone who wastes college time in liberal arts is a fool.  People don't illegally flood into a country that is revolution bait.

Anyway, what would your replace a capitalistic republic with?  A monarchy?

    Get real
