Me and my friend are doing cross country, and we have ran some in june (well i have ran more than her) and some in july too. we are suppose to be able to run 2.5 miles by the first day of school, and the most i have ran 2.1 and then most my friend has ran is a mile. we really want to be on A team, and is it still possible?

  1. I answered this on your friend's question as well.

The biggest thing to contend with is distance. Don't worry about time at this point just distance. Try to run as far as you can without walking. Your goal should be to increase the running distance by about 10% each week. No more than 10% though. You would also run as slow as you need to so that you don't have to stop and walk. It's all about building endurance. Always train longer distance than you will be running, not less. It makes your runs feel a lot shorter and of course they will be easier!

  2. I bet you could run 2.5 miles even though the most you have run is 2.1. When you get into higher levels of running usually if you train 70% of what your distance you can run it. How fast you do it is another matter completely. Awhile ago the most distance I'd run at one time was 4 miles so I just went out and ran 6.

  3. You should be fine. Running is as much if not more mental than physical. If you can go out and run 2.1 miles, then you should be fine for 2.5. Your friend should gradually increase her distance, not too fast but enough so that she would be fine for the 2.5 miles.
