If you have ever played Mass Effect you know what i'm talking about. But if we could create a barrier that would protect us from the forces of light speed, could we travel at light speed?

  1. "What if we had infinite energy (i.e we could harness the power of the sun)"

the sun doesnt have an infinite amount of energy. if you converted all of the matter in the universe to energy (and one gram of mass has more energy than either bomb dropped on japan) and then used all of the current energy, then converted dark matter to dark energy, and harnessed dark energy, you would still not have an infinite amount of energy.

even if you had an infinite amount of energy, you would need an infinite amount of time to reach the speed of light. and if you did reach the speed of light, your mass would become infinite and you would implode on yourself.

and where did you hear that the sun has infinite energy?

  2. You must seek the anceint blue heaaded peoples knolege by asking the condate but find it fast befor saron gets there, hurry and do ashly too, haha have fun with her

  3. Wouldn't it be a lot easier to quite trying to bulldoze through Relativity and find a good way to sidestep it?  Maybe traveling through an infinite dimensional space in which a very tiny movement on one dimension became a -huge- movement in one of the 'normal' dimensions of space-time.

  4. Although some means of protection from traveling even near the speed of light would be required, that still wouldn't help get up to the speed of light. The reason is that, as Einstein showed us and it's been proven, that the closer to the speed of light any object gets the more mass will it acquire, thus requring even more energy to move it faster. To actually reach the speed of light would require infinite energy, i.e., all the energy in the universe.

  5. You can't "protect" from the effects of the speed of light. It works on the individual particles of the spaceship itself, they just simply can't move faster than light because of mass. At the speed of light, they have infinite mass.

  6. Like a force field?

Yes. It is possible. And it would protect us from the high speed travel, by generating a gravity field inside the craft. But we are heading into territory deemed 'idiotic' (by the naysayers of this world) when we think about force fields from UFOS....??

Today and tommorrow is the time of clever thinking and making fiction become reality.

  7. when you reach close to speed of light, atoms in material included electrons bound radoomly in different matters, and yet, any incoming particles such as radiation from other stars, X-ray,gases, free electrons, in space will collide these atoms and as the result, the material will heat up, this could lead to burning off  of any operating machine in the ship. So why want travel as fast as light speed?
