  1. Wedding sponsors are very common within the latin culture.  But the sponsors are close friends and family.  Like Uncle Bob and Aunt Betty sponsor the flowers.  Cousin John sponsors the open bar, etc.

It's not just random people paying for your wedding.  But it is a cultural thing, and not common with most weddings.

Plenty of people don't have mommy and daddy to pay.  You are hardly in the minority, so start saving.

  2. I'm not sure that you will find a sponsor, but check out local colleges and vo-tech schools for flower arranging and food.  Often times, they will do this for you for the cost of the ingredients or flowers.  Also, check out the kids in the photography classes.  Most of them will have a portfolio of some sort and looking to build it even more and will charge a nominal fee.

Look at keepmeinstitches.biz for dresses (bridesmaid & wedding).  They are very inexpensive, but everything we have purchased from there is gorgeous (even the wedding dress, which wasn't on of the "wedding dresses", it was a prom dress in white).

Good luck - hope this helps!

EDIT:  I should have put that culinary schools often have pastry chefs in training, but in a pinch a grocery store cake is not very expensive and really good!

  3. That is just incredibly tacky. If you can't afford the wedding you want either scale down or save.

Also, your "Mommy and Daddy" comment smacks of bitterness and ignorance. There are plenty of people who have parents who don't pay for their weddings but they still have one without resorting to begging and sponsorship. You really need to stop pitying yourself and get over the fact that you aren't "fortunate" and be happy with what you have because you probably have a lot more than a lot people.

  4. Why on earth would anyone here sponsor you?  We don't know you and believe me, this statement:

"we arent [sic] going to get into our life story just to appease you"

isn't going to win you any supporters.

No one here owes you anything, and you're not even humble or polite about it. Wow.

  5. If this is not part of your culture, don't do this.  It's tacky otherwise.  Pay for the wedding you can afford without other people's help.

  6. get a job and pay for your own darn wedding; the way the rest of the people in the world do it......good grief

  7. Getting a sponsor for your wedding is incredibly tacky. If you can't afford to pay for the wedding you want, I'd suggest downsizing your expectations.

Also, parents offering to help pay for their childrens' wedding has NO comparison whatsoever. Just because a couple's parents help pay for some (or even all) of the wedding doesn't mean they're bad or spoiled people.

  8. Thats tacky and semi classless.  sorry, but thats how i feel!

If you can't afford to pay for a wedding without someone's help, maybe you're not really ready to get married.   Or  get married by a justice of peace at the courthouse.  then save money and have a big party later!

I don't have mommy or daddy's help and my fiance and I aren't well off, but we work within our means and we set a budget up .  Try something like that.  You can have a beautiful wedding on a budget.

Look up weddings on a budget online, there are plenty of sites that can help you have the wedding you want with in your means.  Trust me if you find away to do plan this yourself with no one's financial help or sponsering, it'll be an even more special day for you and you hubby to be!

Good luck! email if you'd like any tips or web site suggestions I'd be happy to try and help you with ideas!
