Could you correct this Spanish paragraph for me?

Question

I'm learning Spanish as a third language and am still a beginner, so please tell me what is wrong, if anything.

I meant to say: "I'm sad, because today's the last day before my brother and his girlfriend go to university. I'll surely miss them ): I hope that they'll be able to visit during Christmas."

Spanish: Estoy triste, porque hoy es la último día antes de mio hermano y su novia van a la universidad. A los yo extrañaré seguramente ): Espero que ellos serán capaz de durante la Navidad.

NOTES: I'm still new to the objective pronoun system of Spanish, so I was rather confused as to how to say "I'll surely miss them." I also don't know why, but saying "la Navidad" sounded more natural than just "Navidad".

i capitalized the things I corrected, sorry I didnt write the ú (the little dash) it's because I never learned it :p But I am fluent in Spanish!

I'll explain why it was corrected this way:

Estoy triste, porque hoy es EL último día- Día is always masculine

antes de QUE MI hermano- You need "que" when using the preposition "antes de" or "después de" unless it's followed by an infinitive. If you're using possession before the noun, you must use the short possessive form, in this case "mi". You can also say "el hermano mío" and it's grammatically correct, but it sounds a bit too stuffy to me.

y su novia VAYAN a la universidad.- Hard to explain: it sounds right that way. When you use "antes de" and "después de" and a conjugated verb, that verb should be in the subjunctive mood. Don't ask me to explain the logic- it just sounds right- eventually you'll pick up on what "sounds right" after a while.

Yo LOS extrañaré seguramente- This works perfectly, but sounds more Latin-American to me. In Spain we would use Leísmo, replacing the "Los" with "Les", and we don't use the verb "extrañar" for "to miss". Instead we use "echar de menos". So, in Spain, it would be written "Yo les echaré de menos seguramente"

): Espero que ellos PUEDAN visitar durante la Navidad.- "Espero" is a verb of hope- they may visit, they may not, so there's some doubt as well. Note that you you can also use "Ojalá (que) ellos pueden visitar durante la Navidad"

Great job about "la Navidad."  The biggest errors are in verb tense..  some of your sentences required subjunctive mood, and as a beginner, you are not taught that.  I think you are ready for it however, because you seem to know other tenses.  Congratulations!

Capaz only means "able" in the sense of "capable."  Since you're talking about two people, it would need to be "capaces."

But since you're not talking about physical or moral ability, but rather opportunity, you need to use the verb "poder."

And oh, by the way, I CANNOT tell you how refreshing it is to find a student who wants to TRY to translate into Spanish, and then just ask for corrections, rather than ask for someone else to do the work for them.  You made my day!
