I will be visiting in September and basing myself in the Cotswolds. Is it possible to do a day trip to Stonehenge and Avebury from there? We will have a hire car. Thanks for your time.

  1. yeah its not that far, expensive to go look at them we stood at the fence you can see just as much, go on map quest for directions it will tell you how long it takes as well, take care x

  2. certainly i live in london and have been on day trips to the midlands the cotswolds and even yorkshire and the peak district. i mean stonehenge is only about 50miles from the cotswolds.

  3. I used to live in the Cotswolds, and I took my American wife there one day.  It's not a long journey at all.

Depending on where in the Cotswolds you are staying, I'd say it's going to take between an hour or two each way.

You can look it up on MapQuest.co.uk.  Put in the town you are going to be staying, and Amesbury, Salisbury as your destination, to give you a bit of an idea.  Stonehenge is about 2 miles from Amesbury.

  4. Yes, it is quite an easy journey, depending on where exactly you are based. Look up RAC Routefinder and they will give you the route. I hope you enjoy your stay.

  5. No problem at all - there is actually more to see at Avebury as the village is quite quaint with a great pub as well. Try and avoid weekends if you can as they are the busiest times.
