For example, John, a 26-year-old, unemployed male, comes from a wealthy family and his father is a business-owner. Instead of looking for a job and helping his dad to take care of his business, he relies on his father for monetary support after he received his credit card bills that maxed over $1,000 credit limit and ran out of his pocket money. His bills put him to be helpless and anger. Therefore, John feels that getting father's support is a solution for him to get out of this stress.

People with Dependent Personality Disorder have friends who see them as their own "friends." But, they, obviously, have noticed that those people depend on others for benefits without taking responsibility. For example, John's friends see him John has a very little work experience, and he always sits at home on his computer – chatting. His father tried to push him to search for a job and yet his son is old enough to think on his own about his future.

  1. John has got to want to change. Your not going to correct this for him. He is his own man.....Hitting rock bottom may be the only way for John to pull his head out of his butt.
