Could you just use a regular texting plan on a sidekick lx?

I was wondering if you could purchase a sidekick and get a voice plan and a regular texting plan... you know, like 1000 texts for $10.00? I dont need internet and AIM and yahoo, so i dont need to pay the $20.00 a month.
