Plastic bags should be banned, could YOU live without them? The Australian government wants them banned by the end of 2008, this is a fantastic idea. What do you think?

  1. Is this just the "grocery" bags that are replacing the heavy paper ones? If they are, I see no problem. There are plastics that are bio-degradable which could be used so why don't the push those?

  2. Paper Bags Rule ,I cook my turkey in them, self basting STOP the Madness

  3. Plastic bags shouldn't be banned - but thin disposable 'use one time' bags shouldn't be encouraged.

There's one problem here, I live in a hot country, and I need those thin plastic bags sometimes to put my rubbish inside and tie a knot in the top before I throw them away. Tell me, please, how can I throw rubbish away with no bin liners?

  4. I am not a tree hugger, but as far as plastic bags, no worse than pamper diaper etc..  maybe mommies need to go back to wash and reuse cloth diapers. Plastic is plastic.

  5. its possible without plastic bags...in our town v do it without those dragons

  6. yes.

The charity shop are leading the way if you want a plastic carrier you have to pay for it, the supermarkets should follow the lead of the charity shops.

  7. I seem to be, i haven't used a plastic bag for the shopping for a long time, although they are useful to use as bin bags. They should be completely replaced with the 'green' bags.

  8. We lived without plastic bags around 50 years ago. I think we could live without them again.

  9. I could live without grocery bags! Ziploc bags would be a little harder, I suppose we can all use alumninum foil instead, if that is any better any way.

Bin bags would be the problem. I don't know how we would replace those, if there was a replacement, of course I would try it!

  10. No, I enjoy throwing those little puppies away and clogging up the land fill.

  11. i put my trash in a plastic bag, but for the sake of the environment it's really not that hard.

  12. Yes- we already do, and it wasn't as hard as we thought- just need to plan ahead and make sure our green bags or trolley are with us when required. For freezer/fridge storage we use containers (again, different sizes depending on quantities).

  13. I could live without them, but they are nice for storage because they are clear. They can keep moisture contained or out as well.

  14. G'day! Let's DO it mate.

  15. I have before why not now?

  16. Yes it is a good idea. I am in the UK and there was talk about doing the same here.

However there is no deadline. There is just talk. It always takes so long for things to be passed. Should be a relatively simple thing to implement.

  17. I think that we need to get the fundamentals right first before we beat ourselves up over using plastic bags - Do we feel safe on the streets? Are our kids growing up to be responsible adults?  Is our health service fit for purpose?

The green agenda is fine, but politicians like to air it to take our minds off the real issues.

  18. It would be a big life change, but I do think it would be doable.

  19. Yes, I could just use the paper bags.

  20. And replace them with what?

Have you looked into the environmental impact of the paper recycling industry?
