  1. In most cases, the coach will look at your overall abilities and see if you have potential.  So you don't necessarily need to know how to tumble.  Yes, its helps, but it's not necessary.  I had been a dancer up to a point in middle school where I wanted to try cheerleading as well.  I was very good at the routines, call & response, cheers, stunts...however I wasn't the best tumbler.  But I'll tell you, I stuck with it and eventually got my back-handspring.  And they made me captain of the squad, not necessarily for my tumbling skills, but for my leadership skills and other physical talents.

Just think...sometimes gymnists don't make cheerleading squads...they can tumble great, but can they cheer, can they lift, are they coordinated, can they pick up choreography, can they get a crowd pumped, can they be a team player, etc.

Now in college, it was a little different.  I chose to stick strictly with my dancing.  Cheering in college REQUIRES tumbling in most schools.  So now is the time to prepare!

Just try your best and be yourself.  The coach/captain will see past your inability to tumble at this time.  Show them what potential you have and what a great asset to the team you'd be!

Good luck - hope this helps!

  2. You most likely can. If you are good and confident you will SO make it! Just make sure you can do almost anything else. Keep practicing and you will get it! Sorry if that seemed cliche but if you work on your tumbling you will get the hang of it! Good Luck!!!

  3. I think it depends on the school/team. Cuz at my school, you don't need to tumble. Some squads require it tho, I think. Just ask the captain or coach.

    Good Luck!
