Could you mix paint with polymer clay before making into model?

instead of spending 20 odd quid on different colours of polymer clay could you just buy white clay and mix it with some form of colourant, then, once dried, mould into model before baking?

if yes, what kind of colourant?

if not, then could you paint the model before baking it, or would you need to paint it afterwards?

thanks

  1. You really can't mix paint into the clay, however, you can mix  alcohol based inks such as Pinata inks into the clay.  A little goes a long way.

Other than that, you can always use acrylic paints to paint your project after baking it.
