Are they seperate because, one is from the Electrical science whilst the other has roots in Physics and typically for Mechanical systems ?

  1. Control systems are designed by control engineers. They are electrical in nature, not mechanical. Although most control systems (vis-a-vis industrial) will have mechinical componets.

  2. I'm an Electrical Engineer and specialized in Control System Theory.

If I was going to identify any difference between these two labels, I would say that "Control Systems" is the field of study in general and "Control Engineering" refers to engineers who do Controls work.

  3. Control systems isn't really particular to any specific

branch of engineering. Since the most advanced

control systems today come from GPS.

Control engineering is really almost as

much politics, as it is engineering also.

Which  is why things like Adaptive A.I, Digital Systems,

Laser Disks, HDTV, Fiber Optics, Microcomputers,

Optical Computers, Laser Printers, Electric cars,

    Cruise Missiles,  W.W.W, and USB

    even came into being.

  4. in my opinion, they are same.

in either, any system(mechanical, rotatory, spring, etc) to be analysed is converted into analogous(equivalent) electrical n/w since it's easy to solve/reduce using n/w analysis techniques.
