  1. Most are polite, happy, easy-going, people who will give opinions when asked...of course don't underestimate us...we are really just as opinionated as everyone else, but we are tactful most times.

  2. I think Canadians are very polite and peaceful people. I've had some Canadians who misunderstood me, I once had a bad experience crossing into Canada where the customs official was extremely tough on me, but I convinced myself it was just one guy and if he knew me better, he'd be nicer to me.

But do you know what? I love Canadians unconditionally, and I will never stop loving them. I like where their hearts are and I wish everyone could take after them more.  They just don't start wars, they are experts in the field of peace.

And Canadians fight a different kind of war.  It's the kind where you can bash them and smash them, and they're still nice to you, till it sort of sucks you in, and then kindness takes over, and your heart softens, and then you realize you yourself are becoming part of Canada.

  3. We are a lot smarter, the education system in Canada is leaps and bounds over the Americans.

  4. Quite friendly, open to others ideas and accepting of other cultures.  Love hockey and many love other winter sports as well (skiing, snow boarding etc).  Many say we use the word EH a lot but that's mostly in the eastern part as oposed to across the country.  Love to drink beer.

Come for a visit and find out.  We have two seasons, winter and construction so driving is fun.  We have over priced fuel, over priced cars and we are badly over taxed.  But we do have free health care!  Loads of lakes to fish in and large areas with few inhabitants so exploring the wilderness actually means that.  As there is no super freeway system across the country it takes awhile to drive across it.

  5. Anti-American and yet obsessed with the US.

  6. I am an American who has been living in Canada for the past year (I have also spent about 2 years in France, a country that I love, so I already have experience living outside of the States).

We are moving back home soon, and my husband will commute over the border.

    Why?

Well, mostly because the cost of living is unbelievably high. I still can't figure out how Canadians pay for things (and the five-hour waits at the US border tell me in part how they do). The minimum home price in the Greater Vancouver area is $921,000. That is more than San Francisco.  My grocery bills have doubled since moving from California; I do not even buy high quality groceries up here (except for fish, which is inexpensive).

Just like anyone else, Canadians are complex people. I do disagree with the gentleman who said that they are very well informed about America; I have never met with as much chauvinism as I have up here, not even in France, if you can believe that. And as angry as they are about America, nobody I've met seems to understand the U.S. or its system of government in the slightest (and they are educated folks). "Who cares about your stupid country?" is what I hear most often. Understandable, but it doesn't constitute any type of understanding of our country (not that we have one of theirs!).

One Canadian friend who moved to Europe said to me, "The problem with Canada is, its entire identity is basically 'we're not American.' Nobody even knows what it means to be Canadian."

The health care is "free," but not perfect by any means: trying to find a doctor up here who is accepting patients is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. And as a woman, I can only see an Ob/Gyn if I have a referral - otherwise, it's GP city. Ditto for a Pediatrician for my son. My doctor is straight out of school and didn't quite know what to do with my three-year-old when he came for his appointment. It was not reassuring, but I can't change doctors - the nearest one taking patients is 3O minutes away in traffic.

I'd still take Canadian health care over the mess that is the U.S. system, but at least in the U.S. I have an option to see a specialist. My friend's husband up here in Canada nearly died because they refused to do preventative tests on his heart.  He had to pay a private health care facility out of his own pocket to get the tests done. Big surprise: he was in grave danger and needed immediate surgery.

The U.S. is my home, and I believe in fighting for a better country rather than running to the border. I am tired of hearing Canadians talk about their "Utopia" and the "h**l" that is our country. They are right that our country is a joke right now, with its free-falling economy and joke of a President; however I would rather stay and work for change than hide out in Canada and constantly hear how horrible Americans are.

If they hate U.S. imperialism, why are the parking lots at Wal-Mart always full here in Canada? I personally refuse to shop there, and only go to the Canadian Superstore.

If you want change, you have to work for it with every choice that you make.

Catch you all on the flip side.

  7. I live in Niagara Falls, on the U.S. side, and I've worked with many tourists. I have to say (and I'm not being racist, i have family that lives in Canada) that they are the rudest people I've ever met. I also waitress, and I know that many people are having problems with Canadians because they don't tip properly either, leaving like dollar tips (I don't think they know that American waitresses don't get paid as much as waitresses in Canada.) They also don't have any respect for our environment over here. The malls here are having problems with them, because they will buy things and then go into the parking lot and take everything out of the bags, take the tags off, and leave their garbage in the parking lots. My family that lives in the states no longer speaks to my family in Canada because they told my father "we deserved what we got on 9/11 and Americans are crazy for thinking that Canada will send their boys over to fight with them." My brother plays travel hockey also, and the Canadians, several times have chanted "kill the Americans." They are just insincere people. The further up north you go in Canada, the worse the people get.

Dory- I'm a great, friendly waitress and I have not been fooled. I've been working with Canadians since I was 14. Even radio stations that broadcast in Niagara Falls, Canada tell Canadians they have to start tipping more because U.S. waitresses don't get paid minimum wage. I'm not saying Canadians are cheap, they should just understand that we only get paid 3.50 an hour. Our tips are our pay.

  8. canada is like america in a sence , canadians wil treat you as you treat them , canadians may be arrogant to some americans only for the fact that we know so much about them and they barly know we exsist , or think we all live in igloos even tho were pretty much the same , (not saying all americans but ive seen many who dont know anything about us) , here in canada we like to watch hockey drink and party , canadians enjoy there free health care and live with a sence of security with thiere government , becuase they offer help to the poor , all in all we stand for what we belive in but welcome all with an open mind ,

  9. Dee:), is fooled!

No way, Canadians are like that!

    Per capita, we love "booze"!

    Good Booze! Real Beer!

    Not American! Watered down c**p!

    Good whiskey! Oh Yeah!

    Ice only!

    Tips? Besides "Grow up"?

    I could give a few!

    No more guns! Bi-atch!

    How is that!

Any "good waitress" makes her weight in gold!

    I did it all too!

    My friends and no complaints!

You were a lousy server, admit it?

    Hard work?

    Yes!

    Fun?

    Yes!

    Friends?

    Forever!

    Lots of money? YES!

    KMA!

    xo

    EDIT: marielaurebelleau!

Cripes! With a name like that, I would have guessed you are Canadian! Or a Wanna-be?

    Vancouver is not Canada!

    You have no idea!

They think they are California! (North)

    Same attitudes!

    Sorry, but , Bon Voyage!

  10. Well... I would say they're a little less cocky then Americans. They don't generally try to draw attention to themselves. They're not quite as patriotic as Americans though. They love their Tim Horton's. Maritime Canadians are the most polite and friendly people you will meet in the entire world. Canadians are proud of who they are and like to point out that they are different from their southern cousins.

  11. This is a direct quote from the souvenir shirt I have...lol.

I do not travel by dogsled

a loonie is a dollar, not a relative

I live in the second largest country in the world

    winter only lasts one season

I live in a house, not an igloo

I do not know your second cousin John in Saskatoon

our currency was not based on monopoly money

our parliament buildings are not made of ise

We are the best hockey players in the world

This is all in good humour and taking a jab at the typical "stereotypes" that Americans (and others) have about us Canucks.
