  1. You can always try the Atkins diet.

  2. They are fat free and low in calories.

  3. you can eat all the vegetables in the world, but if you are also eating lots of fat and sugar, it wont help you lose weight.  Generally you need to cut down on fatty and sugary foods, processed foods etc.  Eating lots of vegetables is healthy, and they have a lot less/no fat or sugar in them, so if you eat lots of veggies instead of fatty things, you will lose weight.

  4. The reason people need food to survive is because it gives you energy - we use the energy from our food to do things like move around. The energy in food is measured in calories.

To lose weight, you need to use up more calories than you eat. That is why exercise is good - it needs a lot of energy so you use up a lot of calories. Any left over energy is turned into fat by your body, but if your body needs extra energy, the fat gets used  up.

The reason vegetables are good for losing weight is that they do not have a lot of energy in them compared to other foods. They are also bulky, so they fill you up quickly and you are not tempted to eat more.

Eating your fill of vegetables involves taking in a lot less energy than the same volume of something fatty or sugary, like chocolate. So your body will need extra energy from somewhere, and it will use up the fat that it has already stored.

They are also good for you as they have a lot of other things like vitamins, which are chemicals that your body needs for lots of different reasons, so it will help you stay healthy, but this is nothing to do with losing weight.

  5. Vegetables are low in calories and low in fat.  They are high in vitamins, minerals and fiber.

Obviously it makes sense to consume lower calorie, nutrient dense foods, but in addition, by consuming things which aid digestion (high in fiber and enzymes) you improve circulation.  Improving circulation increases energy and boosts the metabolism, thus promoting healthy weight loss.

  6. Basically, because they contain very little fat, you can stuff yourself full with them, so you don't feel the need to eat other things, and they will give you loads of nutrients, and make you feel satisfied, without filling you with fat and calories.  Perfect!

  7. because vegetarian food is not all that tasty and you end up eating less because your choices are limited.

  8. Vegetables give you a large amount of the nutrients your body needs. As long as they aren't cooked in butter or fat they can help with your weight. Your body doesn't need specific foods, it needs specific nutrients and it doesn't care where it gets them from. By choosing properly cooked veges, like steamed, you give your body one of the better nutrient-to-fat ratios out there.

You're going to need to exercise more than 1 day per week though. 3-4 times per week at least.

I'm neither a dietitian, doctor, vegetarian or vegan. My OCD forces me to answer questions.

  9. There is no cholestrol in plants, and very little saturated fat, so that is one reason why you would lose some weight on a plant only diet.

  10. There are two (effective) ways to loose weight - low calorie and low carb. Vegetables generally have a lower calorific value as well as being packed with vitamins and low in saturated (bad) fats etc. so if you are following a low cal diet, it's usually rich in veg.

For example the weightwatchers point system allows people up to 20 points a day (depending on their starting weight). Points are calculated on calories and and saturated fats. Most veg is 0 points - you can eat a lot of them as snacks, rather than choccie bars, crisps etc.

  11. Besides being low in calories and high in nutrition, they will fill you up so that you aren't snacking on junk food! .... But, to lose weight you DO need to have protein in your diet too!  Make sure that you're eating tofu or nuts.... and, if you're not vegan, cheese and yogurt are good too.......

  12. Vegetables give you a large amount of the nutrients your body needs. As long as they aren't cooked in butter or fat they can help with your weight. Your body doesn't need specific foods, it needs specific nutrients and it doesn't care where it gets them from. 13. Vegetables have a lot of nutritional value (vitamins, minerals, protein, good carbohydrates and phytonutrients) packed into relatively few calories and usually very little fat.  So, you can eat a large volume of vegetables without blowing your calorie count for the day OR shorting yourself on nutrition.  Plus, they have fiber which helps you to feel full and digest your food without absorbing as much fat.  A healthy, balanced diet must contain more than just vegetables, though.  There's no sense in losing weight on a diet you cannot maintain and vegetables alone aren't enough.  You also need fruits, legumes, whole grains and moderate amounts of nuts and seeds to round out your diet.

  14. Hi there.  Vegetables are low in calories and high in fibre and vitamins - a winning combination for weight loss.

  15. Vegetables in themselves will not make you lose weight. Avoiding things like meat, eggs, dairy, refined foods such as sugar and fried foods etc will. So replace animal derived (which is the only food that happens to contain cholesterol) and calorie rich foods in place of a balanced wholefood diet. If you eat plenty of fruit and veg, wholegrains, nuts, seeds etc you will naturally become a healthy weight without cutting down on the actual amount you eat... in fact even if you eat more healthy foods, you'll lose any weight that's troubling you. You should also exercise. I'm afraid there are no miracles when wanting to lose wight... it is simple though, just eat a healthy wholefood plant-based diet and you'll be a healthy weight and feel great at the same time. Good Luck :o)
