  1. Catch them being good... reminding them of say.." let's all contiue to work hard>>>"here lets see how quiet we can work so I can here a pen drop to the floor"


  2. Always catch children being good and draw attention to it.  Even the ones that aren't so good, find something they do well and comment on it in front of the group. "I like the way Sam sits in his seat."  " Gene hangs his coat and bookbag on his hook so well."  These are little things, but kids love to hear their names out loud.

    If you find yourself saying a child's name too much in a negative manner (i.e. sit down, Sam, be quiet, Sam, stay in line, Sam), work out a secret signal with the child that will cause the child to check his behavior.  Examples would be a pat on your own cheek, a hand on his shoulder, or draw a smiley face on the child's hand and walk over and pat it when he acts out.

    Catching children being good is the best way to encourage positive behavior.
