At home, we have a 2Wire router, which allows people to connect to the internet if the have the ten-digit code that's on the bottom of the router. My goal is to be able to keep a twelve-year-old from connecting to the internet while she's in her room with the laptop. I can't really hide the code from her because she finds everything. That is, I could copy the code down and hide it, whereupon I would black it out on the router. However, she would probably end up finding it. In so doing, I would also run the risk of losing it. So, can you think of any technical solutions to achieve the goal of blocking her internet access? I want her to be able to connect to the internet when I'm with her. Say, for instance, she has a report to do and she needs to use the laptop because it has software that we don't have on the desktop. Or, if we go out of town, it would be helpful if we could bring along with laptop so that we could connect to the internet through it.
