  1. The Bluebell Railway (in the singular) is a preserved railway run by enthusiasts. Normal rules of profit and loss are not so relevant, as they have few paid employees (most workers are volunteers). Obviously if their expenditure exceeds their income they are in trouble, but I have certainly heard of no such problem.

    'Q: Does the railway make a profit? A: The Bluebell Railway plc is a "Not for Profit" company. Any profit made is more than swallowed up by the restoration of more rolling stock, improvements to the railway and development of visitor facilities. All these aspects are also subsidised enormously by donations and volunteer labour from our members. We can spend any additional money we are given on worthwhile projects almost immediately.'

    As a limited company, even though 'not for profit', it will have to file annual returns at Companies House (http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/)

    You can go to that website and buy copies of those accounts that have been filed.
