  1. A nautical mile is 1 minute of arc measured at the equator

ie the distance round the world is 60 x 360 = 21600 Nautical miles.

    1 nautical mile = 1.85200 kilometers

    1 nautical mile = 1.150779  Statute mile

  2. a knot is 1 nautical mile per hour or 1.15 statute miles.per hour

a knot is not used to measure depth, a fathom is 6 feet in depth

Learn to tie a bowline, it will work for most uses on the boat.

  5. I believe it's 1.15mph.

A knot is a nautical-mile-per hour. A nautical mile is 2000 yards, i.e. 6000 ft, as opposed to a statute mile, which is 5280ft.  So you can do the math!

  6. this should help....look at this website.

  7. A knot (speed) is 1.15 mph.

A nautical mile (distance) is 6072' and a statute mile is 5280'

It has nothing to do with depth.

The best knot to tie is a bowline.

  8. slightly over  1mph.  Before GPS and Speedos sailors measured speed by tying knots in a rope at specific intervals.  Then while sailing they woul let this rope out over a specific length of time.  Count the number of knots let out, and this was there speed in knots.
