Toronto, Ontario in the last 30 years have added four professional teams where a majority of the teams are located in the United States. These teams are the following;

1. Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB since 1977).

2. Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association (NFL since 1994).

3. Toronto Rock of the National League Lacrosse (NLL since 1998).

4. Toronto FC of Major League Soccer (MLS since 2006).

However, Toronto, Ontario Canada does not have an National Football League (NFL) Team. Eventhough they have a Canadian Football League team (the Toronto Argonauts), they do not have an NFL Team.

Could you see an NFL Team succeeding in Canada in the City of Toronto? Why or why not?

I believe that an NFL Team could succeed in Toronto because every professional sport team that is a major sport in the United States that has come to Canada has succeed in Toronto.

  1. No because you know that most of the fans will be in Canada. They have a weird scoring system in the CFL. And if something happened that gives you points in the CFL but not the NFL the fans would start to boo.

  2. no they have a cfl team and the nfl doesn't need another team

  3. great question.

I think there would be competition from the cfl's argonauts and that most canadians would rather be watching hockey anyway.  what popularity the nfl does enjoy in canada is probably rooting mostly for the bills, lions and other northern teams.  I don't think it would succeed but it'll probably never happen anyway.

  4. And they would be in the CFC alone because they can't be in the American Football Conference maybe the NFC but then who would move over to the AFC because we do not want any of those crappy NFC team stinking up the AFC qualitiy.

  5. Well we will see very soon.  The Buffalo Bills have already committed a home game to Toronto in the coming year or two.  The Bills ownership have also expressed intrest in moving to Toronto because of the economics of Buffalo, NY.  It does sound far fetched, but it may become reality soon.

  6. Bufflalo will be moving to Toronto....

    Rich Stadium only holds 37,000

look for this in the next two to five years

plans are in the works for this and have been for

at least two years, probably longer

  7. There is already a CFL football team there.  The NFL does not need to expand and no teams should be allowed to relocate.  My answer is no but...... they keep talking about giving LA a team but it that happens the four team divisions would be all screwed up so they would have to balance it out somehow so you never really know.

  8. I have never heard of any of those teams.  How come Toronto doesn't have a professional hockey team in the biggest hockey playing country in the world?  (The Maple Leafs are semi-pro.)  If they can't keep a hockey team, then forget about an NFL team in Toronto.

  9. yeah an expansion team will probably come to Canada in a couple years!

hookmhorns999 - u obviously know nothing about Football in Southern Ontario! we follow NFL alot more than CFL! we'd rather watch NFL preseason than CFL regular season! the only week we don't watch NFL is the Grey Cup Weekend!

outsidebreaker - Toronto has had an NHL team since the NHL was formed 90 something years ago!!!

A2000 - they changed the name from Rich Stadium to Ralph Wilson Stadium in 1998 and it holds 73,967 ppl!

figgid - why can't they be in the American Football Confrence? the Blue Jays are in the American League!

  10. Toronto loves and supports all their sports teams.  The Maple Leafs are consistently sold out despite very poor performance.  A large portion of seats are purchased by corporations so I have no doubt that the fan base exists.  While the upcoming Bills games are not sold out yet, I  think this has more to do with pricing than appeal for the game - its way cheaper to watch the Bills in Buffalo and not a far drive.   I think if Toronto had its own team, however, people would probably pay the inflated prices (highest in the league)

So yes, I think it could suceed.
