Hello.

I'm a Japanese student who wants to study in the USA someday. So, I have some questions about a university's doctoral programs and its faculties. So I decided to ask questions to American Professor, but I didn't know how to write an e-mail to professor politely. For example, what to say the first line?Hi or Hello? Dr.~ or Prof.~?

Could anyone show me a model of how to write it?

Thanks a lot!

  1. In a formal English letter, written to someone of importance, the salutation should be structured as follows:

Mr.John Q. Public, Professor of English studies, University of Southern California: Dear Sir:

  2. E-mail is very informal. I would say

    "Hello Prof. ____,

My name is ____ and I am interested in your doctorate program at ____.  "

    Then just write you questions.

    And end with

"Thank you so much for your time.

    Sincerely,

    ____  "

    Best of luck!
