  1. I dont know submit that question to mythbusters

  2. depends how long you are in there for and the fact that you wouldnt be able to open from the inside so would anyone still be alive and remember you are in the fridge when a nuclear explosion just happened i wouldnt recommend it maybe making a shelter with materials that would protest you from the explosion you may survive and not be suffocated long term

    good luck :)

  3. Depends how far you are from the centre of the explosion and what is between it and the fridge. If the fridge is in the cellar and you are miles away from the explosion and there are thousands of building in between, then you should stand a good chance. In Hiroshima, some people survived just because they happened to be shielded by a lamp-post, while others near them fried. The recommendation in the booklet sent out by the govt many years ago was to sit down near a wall away from the windows and shield yourself with a detached door. Fat chance!

  4. You would suffocate only if you got into the fridge too soon before the blast. Personally I would rather wait for the blast so it flash fries me in one second instead of gasping for air in a fridge that will just melt around you any way.

  5. No.

providing the bomb blast didn't flatten you, the radiation would pass right throuogh the metal of the refrigerator.

You would die of "radition sickenss", the symptoms of which vary depending on how much radiation you got.

  6. No.  Not as close as Indy was.  That was strictly movie magic.

  7. Suffffffffffffocation, my friend. [:

  8. You would only survive the initial explosion, the nuclear fumes would seep into the fridge and you would die of radiation poisoning.

  9. Only if your name is Indiana Jones.

  10. Yes, but make sure you leave the milk outside cos after two or three weeks in there with you, it will smell terrible, mind you, you won't be smelling too good yourself either.

  11. If the door stayed shut and if it was lined by lead, then yes. Old fridges used to be lined with lead, to trap the cold in, but they got rid of it, because it would have been dangerous with fumes or something... But the lead would protect you from nuclear stuff, if you survived being thrown around so much as well, then yes, you could. (And to people who said you would suffocate, that doesn't apply here, he asked if you would survive the NUCLEAR EXPLOSION, not, can you survive in a fridge)

  12. you could survive the blast depending on how close it is....

but something else would kill you, either radiation or suffication, kinda like pick your poison...

  13. no.sorry to disappoint you.

only lead would protect you but only to a certain extent. but it also depends on how far away the explosion is.

everyone in the world would suffer because the radiation would get into food so everyone would die eventually.

  14. Aside from suffocating, while hiding in the fridge may make you harder for the dangerous radiation to find, it will not protect you from it, because the radiation will penetrate the steel and plastic from which the refrigerator is constructed.

There's no substitute for a good bomb shelter.  Building one can be both fun and functional!  See http://www.undergroundbombshelter.com/in... for more details.

  15. You can survive a nuclear explosion if you're far enough away.  Far enough depends on how big it is, what kind, how high etc.  If you're far enough away that the force of the blast won't kill you, then there's a chance that the radiation blast will kill you, and then a chance that residual radioactive material will kill you.   This is true in a fridge, or out of it (or any other container).  The fridge will provide some protection against the blast effects, so it will decrease the distance defined as 'far enough' for that.  It will make very, very little difference to the radiation you receive because most of that is penetrating.  You'd need several feet of something solid: concrete, water, lead, steel.  Residual radioactive material gets you over the next several days, so the fridge will make no difference with that, presuming that you get out of it after the noise dies down and try to get as far away as possible.    Come to think of it, a reasonably good place to be would be the bottom of a swimming pool.

  16. Well Indiana Jones did! but in reality um no way lol :)

  17. I seriously doubt it as a fridge would not with stand a small explosion and would definatly not protect you from the radiation.

I think that it would be best if you get as far away from the explosion as you can.

    <3 x

  18. No. Radiation can penetrate a fridge

  19. if you dont suffocate you would be killed by the nuclear fallout - dead either way !!

  20. Yes, if (1) you didn't get stuck in the fridge, and (2) the explosion were a few hundred miles away.

  21. Only if your fridge was in another country.

  22. you'd suffocate in the fridge anyway!!!!

  23. Chances are no because the radiation would kill you, because it can pass through just about everything apart from lead. Unless it was a lead fridge then that would be a different story, but then again lead can be poisonous lol :D

  24. And the fridge got bounced around alot.  And, it then opened from the inside, right?  The door didn't fly open even though it was unlatched?

If the fridge was also in your basement, it might not be so bad.

    But the real answer is:

I'd rather survive a nuclear explosion by being a safe distance away.

    Yes, i'm a wimp.

Please don't rely on movies for an accurate knowledge of science.

  25. Absolutely not. Indie did it, but we can't have Indie dying now can we? You could survive if you were a few hundred miles away but even if the fridge was lead the Gamma radiation would kill you (Gamma rays can pass through lead). The extreme heat would kill you, the cold of the fridge would not save you. The fridge would not fly far enough away to be safe from the fallout and you might die from the bouncing around. Also the plastic burning would give off toxic gasses so you might die from that. Either way you would be a gonner!

  26. It depends on your distance from the explosion.  The Indy movie was amusing but not very realistic.  Further way from an explosion the refrigerator would block

    1 alpha radiation

    2. beta radiation

    3 flying debris

    4. a great deal of heat

Providing you didn't suffocate your survival chances would increase quite a bit.  Indy's distance? You would be toast.

  27. Depends on how far from ground zero you were. Perhaps, but probably not.

  28. lol idk i never tried it but i guess you will get stuck cause it might tip over or you will run out of air

  29. You would be much better off hiding in a basement that is underground on all sides and made of poured concrete not cinder blocks. If there is a garage attached to the house hide in a corner next to the garage - the mass of the concrete shields you from radiation.  You should be prepared to hide for at least 7 days up to 14 days because radiation decays quickly.  Hiding in a subway station in the suburbs, no high rise building overhead is a good idea too.

Anything made of Aluminum will not help you. It has a radiation capture cross section of about 1 "barne"  1x 10E-22 sq meter. Iron and steel are 16 times better than this, and concrete for nuclear power stations has some of the gravel replaced with steel shot..... that makes the concrete very very heavy....

  30. best thing 2 do during a nuclear explosion, is slightly put your head between your legs and kiss your a$$ good bye.

  31. i don't think it's possible a nuclear explosion will rip the fridge to shreds
