  1. I'd check out the AOPA website.  You can even get a free 6 month student membership.  That will give you access to a bunch of stuff about aviation, and will help you start the learning process.

And congrats on your interest in flying..  It's awesome!

  2. a good way to recognize a plane is the position of the engines, number of engines, position the wings shape of the nose and relative size  of the plane here. are my favorite websites.

    for pictures: http://www.airplane-pictures.net/type-li...

for info specs, history, more pic, ect: http://www.airliners.net/aircraft-data/

  3. hey u must probably get one of the  flight simulator version. log in to it and u will find many air crafts and their names . in military jets the most popular ones r   the f-15c eagle ,f-16,mig (there r many kind of it )

  4. Airliners.net is a great site.  They have millions of pictures.  I also recommend getting a "Janes Aircraft Book".  You can find them at any bookstore.  I am also a good reference for aircraft types.  I know quite a bit of them.

  5. If you want to learn about light planes, go to www.aerotraining.com

  6. Hi,

Look at the Jane's Military Equipment Review books - they come out

annually.  AIAA is the Aerospace Engineer's Society on the web at

http://www.aiaa.org  they have over 100 books and courses on aircraft and spacecraft design. The one you want to start with is by Raymer.

    Books to try

    1) Jane's Pocket Guide Fighters of World War II

Publisher: Harper Collins Publishers, Pub date: 1999.

    Pages: 191 p. : ISBN: 000472206X

    2) A field guide to Airplanes of North America,  Montgomery, M. R.

Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Co., Pub date: 1992.

    Pages: ix 230 p.  ISBN: 039562889X

    3) Aircraft Recognition - How to Identify British, n**i, and Italian Planes

    2nd Ed. ,  R. A. Saville-Sneath. Publisher: Penguin Books NY NY

Pub Date: May 1943. Pages 253.   RARE / Collectible.

  7. Airliners.net is probably your best option. They have over a million photographs of aircraft available, as well as a brief amount of information about numerous different types of aircraft. The forums there are also a great source for someone interested in aviation.

As mentioned, you might consider getting a copy of Jane's All The World's Aircraft. You may want to go with one of their condensed versions since the full book (updated annually) usually costs in excess of US$800. I purchased a used version a couple years ago that was about 10 years old at the time for about $75. I would recommend getting a used book if you want one (the book itself is incredible).

Also check around your local airports. If you have a small airport nearby with an FBO, see if they need anyone to help wash aircraft. In days gone by, aspiring pilots would often trade washes for rides. Most pilots will be more than happy to take someone up for a quick ride if you're willing to use a little elbow grease.

If you want to become a pilot, I would recommend joining AOPA, and Sporty's Pilot Shop.

Also, depending on your degree of interest in aviation, some magazine subscriptions may be in order. A membership with AOPA gets you a free subscription to either AOPA Flight Training or AOPA Pilot, but there's no reason you can't subscribe to both magazines.

Another great magazine for pilots is Flying. If you are interested in the airline industry in general, Airways is a good magazine for that. If you are interested in the more technical aspects of both aviation (military and civilian) and space, then you may want to look into Aviation Week and Space Technology. This weekly magazine isn't cheap (US$103 for a year subscription), and the editing is occasionally spotty, but the content is incredible and the subscription includes an annual sourcebook full of information about airlines, aircraft, military and space programs, etc.

Good luck in your future endeavors, and I wish you all the best if you decide to get involved in aviation. Let me know if you need anything else.

  8. US Military aircraft? Try going to http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/s...

There is all kind of information on there!

  9. Since there are so many other answers, I'm just going to teach you that the plural of aircraft is aircraft. There is no s.
