The "Green Goddesses" (armoured military fire engines) have been around for ages now.

The Army used them a few years ago in Britain when the Fire and Rescue service went on pay strike.

They have also been used for breaking up riots in the Northern Ireland conflict.

Since they aren't used for your preposed situation, they obviously aren't particularly good at it.
