Coulomb's law?

The magnitude of the electrostatic force between two point electric charges is directly proportional to the product of the magnitudes of each charge and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the charges.

can somebody tell me what this means?

  1. Coulomb's Law describes the relationship between force, charge and distance.

The force is proportional to the electrical charges multiplied by each other, and divided by the square of the distance between them.  So larger charges create larger forces, but the force falls off rapidly with increasing distance.
