How do I know if a £20 note is Counterfeit?

I work at a supermarket and there have been some counterfeit notes passed onto some colleagues and I would like to know how I could spot one.

  1. Turn yourself in.

  2. check if the queens face is visible  if it is then it s real

  3. Look for the silver line in the middlle, hold it up to the light and look for the face thats printed on it. also just by feel you can tell, fake bank notes feel more papery and crisp than real 1's. if you suspect any note at all then dont accept it.

  4. burn it

  5. dont you have checker pens? if not get your manager to order some...where i work we check every note. got a fake the other day and only picked it up cos of the pen...the queen looked a bit weird (her eyes were different) but that was all i could tell on close inspection!

  6. Supermarkets normally have special pens to tell you.

  7. the feel of the paper, the appearance of the queen and the solid line appearing after it is held in the light. They are the main ones - however, the feel of the paper if very important

  8. You usually have to put them under a little UV light, but that can probably be faked too.  I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's up to the supermarket to train you in how to check them (usually supermarkets don't bother).  Unless it's really obviously a fake note it's not your responsibility to spot them.

  9. get an ultraviolet light, real 20s have an ultraviolet light mark thats says £20 on it (thats the best way to tell) and also, they tend to be a tad bigger than normal 20s and also the paper texture is a givaway.

  10. if someone hands you a piece of paper which has a badly crayon-drawn picture of the queen saying £twenty-qwid then it might be counterfeit

  11. Ask your employers.
