Countersignature Passport Awkwardness!?

Question

My friend (who is a civil servant) countersigned my passport form, the checked it and said his signature doesn't match!!!

I handed it in, paid £97 and let it be.

He said sometimes he signs things differently and he accidentaly signed it using his "band signature". lol! What checks will be carried out now. Obviously they'll phone him and he'll confirm he signed it but will it delay the fast tracking of my passport? Will they send him anything to sign which means my passport being delayed in getting to me!?

I fly out on the 25th!!!! I'm worried to say the least!

sounds like your friend is a moron.

They will not check the signature unless there is a good reason to do so (i.e. you are a terrorist or criminal).

In any case, with the small amount of space they give you to sign passport forms, there are not many people's signatures that look real anyway.

You'd think that paying all that money that they would check things out, but they never seem to :-)

I'm afraid I don't know, but I'd love to know the answer to this when you have one.  Have they just phoned him up and told him it doesn't match, and not said what they'll do next (ie send more forms out etc).  Or did they phone you/you have to phone them?  When he's signed it wrong, with his band signature, is that like a totally different name, or is it just a different way of doing his usual signature but with the same name?

When they say the signature doesn't match, what doesn't it match to, because you only have to sign once, don't you?

Edited to add:  I've just read on another site that they check his signature against the one of his passport - hence why you have to provide his passport details.  Not sure how true that is, but suppose it would make sense.
