Countersigning a passport. what are they trying to stop ppl leaving the UK?

getting someone to countersigning a passport application is like pulling a monkey out of a hat. I been all over to get this application signed in london and no one will sign it what are they trying to stop ppl leaving the UK? lol

The police usually oblige, Its nothing got to do with if you were ever arrested. I have certainly never been arrested and I got it signed at the Police station. If they insist that they wont sign it I'd suggest contacting the passport office for more info and explain you situation to them either that or you local citizens advice office should be able to advise you more.

A clue ... you're in the Ireland section. Are you sure you're in the UK ;-)?

You are in the wrong section. But it is an old law. It was used to keep the poor from leaving. If you notice it can't be just anyone who signs it. It has to be a doctor, banker, or some "upstanding" member. In America you get a passport until you do something wrong.
