Country Quota Playoffs at 2011 Quebec Open Jeep – Men Match Recap
The 2011 SWATCH FIVB Quebec Open Jeep kick started in city of Quebec, Canada on Tuesday, July 19. In the men’s division, a total of 55 teams from 24 countries entered the competition. Following the set formula of the Federation International de Volleyball
(FIVB), the tournament was opened with the early stages of the Country Quota Playoffs. Teams from Canada and USA had to go through the qualification process.
The following seven duos took part in the CQ matches:

In CQ stage, five matches were played which promoted five successful teams in the Qualification Tournament. Four matches were played by local duos from Canada, while two American tandems were featured in the fifth match.
Hatch-Schachter vs. Allaire-Plantinga 2-0 (21-13, 21-11) 0:29
In the first match of the day on Tuesday afternoon, Hatch/ Schachter defeated their compatriots Allaire and Plantinga in straight sets. They served well and put pressure on the challengers with their commanding shots. Hatch was an expert hitter and he took
full advantage of the situation. They built an early lead over their opponents and didn’t allow them to come up. Trailing behind 13-21, Allaire and Plantinga dropped the opening set of the match.
Hatch-Schachter attacked with more strength in the second set and kept an upper hand on the struggling pair of Allaire/ Plantinga. Their performance further improved in the second set and they clinched success by winning with a final score of 21-11. Hatch-Schachter
advanced to the next round of the Qualification Tournament.
Séguin-Surprenant vs. Fecteau-Boutin-Wheelan 0-2 (8-21, 10-21)
The other two teams played their CQ match in a differt court but at the same time. The pairings of Fecteau-Boutin-Wheelan faced Séguin-Surprenant on one court. The latter confirmed their ambitions of victory and exhibited a great performance. Their attack
and strong blocking stopped their opponents from scoring any points. Seguin and Surprenant were restricted to a low score of 8 and 10 in two consecutive sets. Fecteau and Boutin were quick to hit the finish line in a very short time. It just took them 29 minutes
to earn the status of winners and success helped them secure a spot in the Qualification Tournament on the next day.
Hinchey-Vandenburg vs. Nusbaum-Pedlow 2-0 (21-19, 21-14)
Match between Hinchey-Vandenburg and Nusbaum-Pedlow was a close fight. The final word was given in favour of Hinchey and Vandenburg but they earned the victory the hard way. The duo of Nusbaum/ Pedlow was fully prepared to give a hard time to their opponents.
They staged a great fight and tried every possible way to save the game. Nonetheless, a better combination of attack and defense from Hinchey/ Vandenburg allowed them to enjoy a straight set win.
Keenan-Patterson vs. Scott-Hyden 0-2 (16-21, 12-21)
The duo of Scott- Hyden emerged as winners in the American Country Quota playoffs. They crossed the paths of Keenan and Patterson. Scott/ Hyden maintained a fair lead over their compatriots and eventually the final whistle was blown in favour of Scott and
Hyen and they qualified for the next stage of the tournament.
Cuillerier-Lague vs. Humana-Paredes-O'Gorman 1-2 (17-21, 21-15, 13-15)
Last CQ match of the day once again featured Canadian duos. It was the longest match, which continued for more than 40 minutes and spanned over three sets. The duo of Cuillerier-Lague offered great resistance to the rival side but finally had to accept their
better status in the match. Humana-Paredes-O'Gorman won the match with a narrow gap of points.
