Country Quota Playoffs of Baden Masters take place in Austria – Volleyball news
The Baden Masters European Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament started off on Wednesday in Baden, Austria.
The tournament opened with the Country Quota Playoffs and a total of 19 women’s duos entered the competition. Hosts Austria alongside Germany, Spain, and Czech Republic played at the CQs, in order to earn the qualification berths.
According to the set formula of Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV), the successful teams of the CQs will enter the Qualification Tournament and top-16 duos will enter the Main Draw, which will be followed by the crucial ‘Final Four’ stage of the
tournament. Finally, European champions, runners-up, and bronze medallist duo will catch the limelight. The Baden Masters is scheduled to complete its run from May 23-26.
In the Austrian Country Quota Playoffs, dynamic duo of Teufl and Klopf launched authority over compatriots Csrnko and T.-Schilcher. The former pair dominated the scene and finished the match in two sets. They captured both sets with identical score of 21-11
and it took them only 30 minutes to take winners’ seat. CQ victory enabled the winning duo to move to the next stage of the tournament.
Bonnerova-Hermannova earned the qualification via Czech Republic CQs. The duo did not have to put any effort but advanced to the qualifying round after a forfeit it the first match. Two more Czech pairs came into a tough competition in order to advance to
the next round. Rehackova-Vorlova clashed with Galova-Vankova in the second match. The match spanned over three sets and took many different turns. Eventually, Rehackova-Vorlova got lucky in defeating the opponent. They posted 2-1 (21-16, 19-21, 15-7) on board
to clinch success.
Later in the day, Spanish duos came into stride. The first team of Spain, which consisted of Teufl and Klopf, earned a bye and moved ahead.
Matveeva-Florian overpowered FERNANDEZ NAVARRO-CASTAÑO in the second match and clawed their way to the qualification tournament. They downed the country rivals with 2-0 (21-16, 22-20).
Ribera-Antequera became the third team from Spain to enter the qualification tournament. They also earned a bye in the country quota playoff and went straight into the second stage of the tournament.
The opening day of the 2012 Baden Masters concluded with the German Country Quotas, which featured three matches among four duos.
In the opening affair, pairing of Bieneck-Großner went against Mersmann-Tillmann. The match covered its length in two sets and ended with following result 2-0 (21-16, 21-13). However, one victory was not enough to help Bieneck-Großner seize the qualifying
berth. They defeated Aulenbrock-Laboureur in the second match and then earned the qualification.
After the successful completion of CQ, the Qualification Tournament is scheduled to get underway on Thursday.
